Your Morning Sift

Good morning.

Things were relatively active in the South Florida blogosphere last night. Here are the high points, in my opinion. Enjoy your morning Sift.

A- Celebrating the cold weather at the Little River Yacht Club in Miami, as interpreted by Sean Was Here.

B- Miami Urbanist takes us inside an Alfred Browning Parker design in Morningside.
Check out this lovely gem of home that I discovered in Morningside a couple of weeks ago. This MidCentury modern home was built in 1961 and designed by Miami homegrown architect Alfred Browning Parker. Parker was heavily influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and in 1959 Wright recommended Parker as an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Fellow. In fact, Parker was the only architect Wright recommended for the Fellowship. Goes to show how great of an architect Parker was in the eyes of Mr. Wright himself.
C- Obalesque considers evidence indicating that you almost have to be nuts to smoke cigarettes.
Thinking back, most, not all, of the certifiably crazy people I’ve had the pleasure to know were smokers. They often had other bad habits, too, like a fondness for folk music and crafts. But many also developed good habits, like drinking, which made them a lot happier, especially in combination with their drugs. It also kept the medical establishment at bay, and as crazy as they were, they weren’t so dumb as to understand that the worst thing that ever happened to them was slipping into the clutches of the cult of psychiatry, and to avoid further exposure.
D- What $6100 a month rent gets you at Jade at Brickell Bay, courtesy of Miami Condo Investments.
If you are looking to rent a luxury 3 bedroom condo with a direct water view in Brickell then look no further than this beautiful 3 bedroom residence on the 41st floor at Jade at Brickell Bay. The unit has a private elevator which opens to an incredibly spacious floor plan with 2,130 interior feet. The flow-through residence covers the entire width of the building from east to west allowing for direct views of Biscayne Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and the city. It also offers a total of 378 exterior square feet spread across two separate balconies, one on the east side overlooking Biscayne Bay and the swimming pool deck and the other on the west side overlooking Brickell Bay Drive.

Martini: [rips a cigarette in half] I bet a nickel.
McMurphy: Dime's the limit, Martini.
Martini: I bet a dime.
[Puts the two halves onto the table]
McMurphy: This is not a dime, Martini. This is a dime.
[shows a whole cigarette]
McMurphy: If you break it in half, you don't get two nickels, you get shit. Try and smoke it. You understand?
Martini: Yes.
McMurphy: You don't understand.
