Fate And A Sinkhole

Associated Press

If the story of Jeff Bush (above) and the now famous Florida sinkhole doesn't give you pause to think about fate and the possibility that everyone's Book of Life is written for them the minute they are born, then nothing will. Here is a guy who lived and experienced 35 years of life and all that comes with that and then, one night, the floor of his bedroom drops out from underneath him and he and his bed disappear into the bowels of the Earth, never to be seen again.

Thursday, it turns out, was the conclusion of the last chapter of Jeff's Book of Life.

The big question of course is whether your book is the size of Jonathan Livingston Seagull or War and Peace.

I don't know if that's a fair comparison; the story of jonathon livingston seagull doesn't really end.

“Sully, for shame!" Jonathan said in reproach, " and don't be foolish! What are we trying to practice everyday? If our friendship depends on things like space and time, we've destroyed our own brotherhood! But overcome space, and all we have left is Here. Overcome time, and all we have left is Now. And in the middle of Here and Now, don't you think that we might see each other once or twice?”
