I have a full evening Sift for you tonight, readers. Lots of good stuff to click in to. Have fun.
A- South Florida Classical Review posts a Critic's Choice for this coming weekend.
Seraphic Fire’s production of Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas opens Friday in Fort Lauderdale, giving audiences the chance to hear what promises to be a first-rate performance of the oldest opera in the standard repertoire.B- Beached Miami chats with one of the organizers of the new Little Haiti Sunday Stroll.
What activities/events can we expect at the first Little Haiti Sunday Stroll?C- South Florida Food and Wine has a list of the James Beard Foundation Award semifinalists, including those from South Florida.
YO: The idea behind the Stroll is for it to be more focused on culture in general (with special emphasis on Haitian/Carribean culture) rather than strictly sticking to art. While there will be galleries such as Yo Space and Moksha featuring art, there’s also book stores, restaurants, a record shop, and a whole variety of venues that will have their own elements to bring to the table.
D- The305.Com has the huge news that tostones are back at Pollo Tropical and are free through the weekend with a coupon.
E- South Florida artist known as Krave has a new space in Little Havana that Arterpillar tells us is opening on Friday night with a big party.
F- Eater Miami asks Rachel Dominguez a few questions about The Dome Restaurant & Caviar Bar on their one-year anniversary.
What's been your biggest success at the restaurant?G- There's been an extraordinary development in relation to one of Carlos Miller's past acquittals.
In August we officially became the first LEED® Silver certified restaurant in Coral Gables. It's an honor to have achieved the LEED Silver certification and I hope other restaurateurs will follow suit. Additionally, it has been my dream to create a garden for The Dome since first coming up with the concept for the restaurant. The partnership with Ready-to-Grow Gardens and the impressive program at Gables High School has made this dream a reality, far exceeding anything I could have imagined. Not only is the foundation supporting the future generations of chefs while giving back to the community, but it is also enhancing The Dome's customer experience by using a sustainable, nourishing and safe food source. The overwhelmingly positive experience that I have had with the garden is what I wish to extend to others with The Culinary Youth Project.
Ari Pregen, one of the the Miami-Dade prosecutor who tried to convict me last November, explaining to the jury that I had not acted like a real journalist when I was arrested covering the Occupy Miami eviction, was fired for repeatedly abusing the power of his badge at a local strip club.H- So the questions one has to have after viewing the NRA video at Gun Free Zone [which is wisely posted without a comment] are who are they fighting...and with what?
I- Road photos at Some Blogging Guy's place.
J- Mojo Donuts in Pembroke Pines looks pretty damn tasty at Burger Beast.
Mojo Donuts opens at 6AM and closes when they run out of donuts. I was there at 11AM and a few of the varieties were already gone. Get here early to make sure you can choose from the largest selection possible.

That extraordinary development in Carlos' case came courtesy of Miami New Times. I guess I should thank you for the acknowledgement. -- Francisco Alvarado
I'm not sure I get what you mean, frankness, but you thanking me for anything seems kinda outta the question, no?
.
What it means is that you should give credit where credit is due even when you don't like or get along with someone Rick. Some day you may learn that doing so will gain you some measure of respect.
Hey, Frank, here's the deal in case this is your first time through these parts in the 5 years I've been doing this...I review blogs. I don't review alternatives although I do throw in a link to Cultist Miami in the Weekend Widgets.
Don't even get me started about giving credit where credit is due. Take a tour around SFDB and you'll find almost everything I do here is linked. My commenters actually berate me about THAT, too.
Fact is, you've had a bug up your a*s for me for years and this is just the latest opportunity for you to take a swing. That's fine. But really, let's call it for what it is.
I did give where credit was due: Carlos Miller is the blogger who wrote about it. End of story.
.
Am I the only one who finds it kind of strange that the New Times is sending out writers to squeeze blogs for links?
Biscayne Times reader: I'm not trying to squeeze Rick for links. I would just like to see him play fair when it comes to giving credit to the appropriate outlet that broke news when, in the past, he has bitched about media outlets lifting from blogs without crediting them. Maybe I shouldn't have been so snarky and asked Rick nicely. But what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Francisco, I usually dig you, but you're a bit off base here. The subject was Carlos Miller, who SFDB has a long history with, and whose every new post Rick reviews. He linked directly to his blog. Pick a better fight.
