Your Evening Sift

So the folks at Google finally got Reader fixed at the end of the day, just in time for the Sift. Good timing because there is a huge amount of writing to wade through tonight. Enjoy your voluminous evening Sift.

A- Okay, so you'll probably never go there but Burger Beast's photos of the food that you'll get at That One Spot Eatery in Ocoee is worth the click over.

The B.B. Burger is topped with Caramelized Onions, Brisket, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese and a Horseradish Sauce. It was a spectacular Burger. I would normally have first tried their regular Burger with only Cheese before I jump into a specialty Burger. Something about this one was calling me and it wasn’t just the initials. The smokey Brisket & Bacon with the creamy Horseradish sauce on the Cheeseburger were a great marriage of flavors that had me trying at first to dissect what exactly I was eating with each bite. No need to do that, the Burger was exceptional even without all the dressing.

C- Miamism's Bay Harbor Islands real estate report is up.

There were 9 Bay Harbor Island Homes sold in 2012 with a median sales price of $1,125,000 and average price per square foot of $366. January’s sale was at $420 per square foot which is way above the average price and definitely a good move by the seller. Bay Harbor Island’s sales have been slow and in-between, but it only strengthens the fact that the area is desirable and little for sale inventory is always good.

D- Is it a little revealing that the story behind Juvia doesn't include, um, food? At Eater Miami...

How did Juvia come to be?

Jonas Millan: Juvia in a way is the result of a journey. When we set out to build this restaurant, we had a vision. We wanted a restaurant that would speak 'Miami' from the ground up. Miami is a vibrant city, full of different cultures. We wanted to translate that into a space where people would feel comfortable. We wanted a sense of nature, that's how the vertical garden came to be. Then we wanted an open space where people would feel comfortable and free to see everything from the kitchen. Juvia came to be as a result of our team work. There is so much of each one of us, that we wanted to create a unique place, a place that will somehow translate everything that we've done in the past years, all our experience into a single place.

I- The scene at the New World Symphony was rather special, according to Salty Eggs.

The result was 40 minutes of, well, a complete circus. The musicians playing Renga itself alternated between plaintive woodwind solos, thunder-claps of strings and horns, and sudden outbursts of cheap percussion, like jingle bells and mini cymbals. From different corners of the auditorium, performers in other pieces yelled, laughed, or sang Gregorian chant-like passages of notes.

K- Mybrickell was topped off last Friday and Curbed Miami was there for the festivities.

mybrickell, the first tower break ground in Brickell since the crash, was the first to top off last Friday when a few local dignitaries wandered over to take pictures of themselves while a crane ceremoniously hoisted a palm tree to the roof.

L- Food for Thought gives his thoughts and impressions of the recent "Odd Couple Dinner."

Why "Odd Couple"? Well, Kilgore is the culinary Felix Unger: before coming to Miami he worked at high-end Chicago places with a constellation of Michelin stars: Alinea, L20, Boka and Epic. When he was sous chef at Miami's Azul, Andrew Zimmern dubbed him "Wall Street" for his slick style and slicked-back hair. Yes, there are probably tweezers in his knife bag.

That would make Serfer the culinary Oscar Madison. His style is exactly as the name of his restaurant, tucked into the still-slightly-dodgy Biscayne Inn on Biscayne Boulevard, suggests: it's upscale diner food, straightforward, hearty, and if it's a little sloppy, well who cares? It'll still taste good.

M- Bark Bark Woof Woof opines on the Pope's early departure.

A lot of people say that the Roman Catholic church has done many good deeds. They run schools, they feed the poor, and offer spiritual support for those who believe. But the fact remains that they have a history going back thousands of years of institutionalized torture, cruelty, misogyny, genocide, oppression, rape, sexual abuse, and shady financial dealings that would shame the most amoral among us, all in the name of their brand. The departure of one leader for another means very little in the long history of this enterprise, and the new pope will likely be a relatively younger copy of the one who is leaving.
