The Cooler

Here are a few of the stories I found particularly interesting in this morning's news feeds.

A- HuffPo: Conga: The Musical.
NEW YORK -- Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio are hoping the rhythm is going to lead to Broadway.

The duo on Tuesday announced that they've teamed up with the Nederlander Organization to try to create a musical based on their lives and take it to the Great White Way.
B- Palm Beach Post: Cerabino on the Florida Sheriff's Association.
I know it’s illegal to impersonate a law-enforcement officer.

But what happens when a law-enforcement officer impersonates a judge?

I’m talking about the recent proclamation from the Florida Sheriff’s Association announcing that its members “will not not assist, support, or condone any unconstitutional infringement” of the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.

The timing of the proclamation coincided with efforts by President Barack Obama and some members of Congress to advocate for gun regulations that ban the sale of military-style assault weapons, limit rounds of ammunition in clips, and eliminate loopholes in background checks for gun sales.

If those measures, yet to be enacted, turn out to be unconstitutional, that will be the work of judges to decide. If county sheriffs get to pick and choose which law they believe is valid, they would not be called law-enforcement officers, they’d be called law-interpreting officers.
C- South Floria Business Journal: On its way.
Stephen Ross’ plan to get a $200 million public subsidy from the state and the county got a leg up from the Senate’s Commerce and Tourism Committee, which voted 11-0 Tuesday to move the bill that benefits the Miami Dolphins stadium forward.
D- CBS4: Remember, it's not the breed.
MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) - A mail carrier is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by two dogs.

Emogene Powell was delivering the mail near NW 191 street and 15th Ave when neighbor’s dogs jumped the fence and attacked her.

[...]

Despite police saying the dogs are pit bulls, the owners said the dogs are registered as American Bulldogs. She insists that they are not dangerous. But when we asked her to bring the dogs to the door she responded by saying, “no! Are you crazy? Do you thing I would bring the dogs in here?”
E- NBC Miami: Gas station thefts continue.
Surveillance video caught the latest gas station purse snatching at a Chevron station on Red Road in Hialeah. A BMW pulled up to the unlocked car while the driver was inside paying for gas. In the video, you can see someone get out, open the passenger side door and then leave – taking a purse.
F- WSVN: Bizarre video when reporters go inside Boca mansion where squatter resides.
