Things were busy around the South Florida blogosphere today. If you haven't done so already, you might want to check out the nominees for Last year's SFDB Post of the Year that went up earlier today. Check out what I found for your evening Sift
A- Salty Eggs has an update on local South Florida band Plains and their new video.
Foursome Plains is one of the local music scene’s great, quiet treasures. The band, led by Michael McGinnis, has always stood for quality over quantity, releasing an album of super-tight indie rock in a classic style seldom heard in South Florida.B- Discourse finds some science behind why he feels disoriented in malls.
C- The Cuban Triangle links to a video of Cuban-American poet Richard Franco's poem that he presented today at the inauguration and posts another one of his compositions while Bark Bark Woof Woof has a video of Obama's inaugural address.
D- Buffalo Wild Wings in South Miami won't be getting a return visit from Boy Writes Miami.
The problem with Buffalo’s wings was that they were too dry. I mean, it’s chicken so I’ll eat it anyway, but it’ll never drive me to return. Nothing about this place is remarkable, which is why I had such a tough time actually talking about the food and instead resorted to badmouthing Applebee’s.E- Eater Miami posts a guide to Miami's late night food spots.
Once the clock strikes 10 p.m., it's often difficult to find delicious or interesting restaurants still open. Luckily, Eater Miami has compiled a list of the city's best late night offerings. From Latin hot dogs to Asian fusion to sushi at a karaoke spot, here's an updated list of the best places in Miami to satisfy your hunger late at night.F- Man or Maniac? wonders why the security company in charge of securing Metrorail is still on the job given their experiences with Carlos Miller.
It is long past time for Miami Metrorail to fire these cretins and replace them with a reputable company that adheres to the actual law. The citizens of Miami-Dade county deserve better than the clowns employed by 50 State Security.G- Hello, I'm Scott brings us up to date on his move to Costa Rica.
One thing Costa Rica doesn’t have very much of is named roads or street addresses. From what I can gather, anyway. For sure, major roads are named. But people navigate by landmarks. In fact, when I booked the house and the reservation came through, the property was identified on the map by longitude/latitude. Not by a street address or street name.H- South Florida Guy continues to get down and dirty with his house renovation project but takes some time to tell us about a product that might come in handy if you're contemplating doing similar work.
I- An old Miami Beach mansion is going to be demolished soon and Curbed Miami takes a look at it and what is set to replace it.
Hot on the heels of the much publicized 42 Star Island Drive preservation battle, another Miami Beach landmark estate is on the chopping block, this time a 1935 federal style red brick house by famed architect Maurice Fatio at 5446 North Bay Road.
