"They're Taking Away Our Guns!"

Jim Morin, Miami Herald

"They're taking away our guns!"

No, they want background checks on ALL gun sales.

"They're taking away our guns!"

No, they want to reinstate the expired assault rifle ban that enjoyed the support of Republicans.

"They're taking away our guns!"

No, they want a limit on magazine size.

"They're taking away our guns!"

No, they want to make it a crime to possess armor-piercing bullets.

"They're taking away our guns!"

No, just like prohibiting the sale of grenade launchers doesn't mean you can't own a gun, restricting the sale of assault rifles doesn't mean you can't own a firearm.

The NRA and its most radicalized followers love to make commonsense gun safety measures a threat to the 2nd Amendment because everyone knows that first it's magazines and then it's jack-booted thugs dressed in black showing up at your house asking for your S&W .357 snubnose. It's the way it's always worked in this country, right?

Well, no, but that's because we've never had a Kenyan Muslim Socialist in the Black White House and, you know, there's Bill Ayers, too.

The only thing sadder than these hysterical gunpowder sniffers is their self identification to America's revolutionary patriots who were actually fighting for freedom and liberty instead of the "right" to carry so-called cop killer ammunition and high capacity magazines.

Those guys would have a good laugh at these clowns.

Why would any gun owner believe there is some red line that progressive will not cross? Progressives have banned guns, including revolvers in some European countries (Britain), so why would we believe it won't happen here?

Why indeed. The term "common-sense gun safety" tells it all. It is "common-sense" to "feed a cold and starve a fever," but that doesn't mean that there is any medical or scientific basis it will work. It was "common-sense" a few years ago that vaccines were causing autism. It was "common-sense" that property values in South Florida were never going to stop rising. Etc., etc. "Common-sense" is BS.

Do you know what "common-sense" really means when a progressive says it, Rick? Of course you do. It means "feel good".

And that is really what Feinstein has proposed. Nothing more than "feel good" gun safety measures that won't save any lives, but makes her and you "feel good" as if you are actually doing something. Probably more important to you, it makes you "feel good" to piss off me and my "ilk."

So when a new AWB or magazine capacity ban fails to save lives, your response will be even more "feel good" gun control. So indeed, the slope gets slippery.

Add to the fact that the entire push for gun control has not been fueled by any sort of rational debate or calculated rebuttal of the arguments advanced by the NRA, or even just very knowledgeable firearms competitors like me. No, all that we've seen on your blog, and throughout the progressive blogosphere is venomous hate and demonization.

Your post above speaks volumes. Charged with rhetoric like "hysterical gunpowder sniffers" or "clowns" and of course, Rick's favorite play, the race card: "Kenyan Muslim Socialist in the Black White House."

And you have the audacity to call me a "clown" for my unwillingness to entrust my rights to hateful, divisive and fauxgressives?

And to think, all this because when little Ricky was in the 3rd grade some bullies stole his lunch.

"Knowledgeable firearm competitors" are now the people that should be consulted to determine what this Nation needs to do in order to stop the wholesale slaughter of innocent Americans by individuals armed with semiautomatic military-styled weaponry. You're kidding, right?

Please don't flatter yourself, JM. Guys that can hit targets from 50 feet are a dime a dozen. When the pretending stops and those targets start moving and firing back we'll find out real quick who is really prepared and who is just a range rambo who just likes to pretend.

For 4 long, torturous years, Democrats and, specifically, this President have endured the wrath of the opposition in the form of racial taunts, threats and outright attacks. We're all big boys and girls and can handle this crap and still win the big elections but don't you or any of the right wing try to distance yourself from the ugly rhetoric that you all own.

I stand by this post. And if it sounds harsh then it's because of people like you.

You all did it to yourselves.

Absolutely, along with other people knowledgeable about firearms. People who know next to nothing about firearms, never shot them, don't know the difference between automatic and semi-automatic, don't know our existing laws, etc should not be treated as experts because they have "common sense" aka "feel good" solutions.

"Please don't flatter yourself, JM. Guys that can hit targets from 50 feet are a dime a dozen"

I'm glad you've been reading my recent blog posts, but actually most of my shooting competitions are with a rifles out to 600+ yards, and with pistols at 50 and 25 yards. I'm nationally classified as a "Master" with the rifle, likely will be bumped to the highest class, "High Master" before 2013 is out. I know that people who excel at things because of hard work and self-discipline frustrate and irritate progressives. But to get that good, it stands to reason I learned a few things about firearms along the way, right Ricky?

My money is on the guy with the gun.

"this President ha[s] endured the wrath of the opposition in the form of racial taunts"

And that has exactly what to do with the gun control debate? Do you honestly believe that if Bill Clinton were president today, that the NRA would not oppose an assault weapons ban or magazine capacity limitation? That we wouldn't be having this same discussion if a white man was in the office? Rick, you have no idea of the insults and vulgarity I would be hurling at the President if he were a white Jew. The race of the president makes absolutely no difference in this debate. Your continual playing of the race card just demonstrates how you care more about spewing hate than actually being part of a discussion to formulate sound policy, i.e. policy that does more than make you "feel good."
