The NRA claims 4.3 million members. If you charitably assume it’s not padding the numbers, the total still represents just a tiny fraction of American gun owners, of whom there are at least 146 million.
In other words, more than 97 percent of legal gun owners in this country — hunters, target shooters, people who keep or carry a firearm for protection — don’t belong to the NRA.

What percent of pet owners are members of
PITA or their local Humane Society? I guess the large majority of non-member pet-owning Americans are cool with animal cruelty, because they haven't joined? What percent of seniors are members of AARP? I guess the large majority non-member seniors are cool with Medicare cuts, because they haven't joined?
Can you identify any gun rights organization (Gun Owners of America, Second Amendment Foundation, etc.) that supports an "assault weapons" ban? Nope, didn't think so.
The best the progressive media can do is trot out Old Uncle Billy whose been a' huntin' ducks with a single-shot 12 guage since Eisenhower and he's darned if he knows why "folks" need one a' dem' machine guns by gummit! Cuz' a real man don't need nothing but his fists for self-defense, by gummit!
Actually Rick, I thank you and your "ilk" for fanning the flames. The firearms community is more united than ever, and NRA membership has climbed several hundred thousand thanks to your and your moveon.org handlers' hysterics. I know two young non-gun owners who joined the NRA last week, because they do want to own guns someday and see what the madness advanced by the irrational progressives. One is a woman, both racial minorities.
