Announcing the SFDB December Post of the Month...




  Sex and the Beach "Fishing Adventures in Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands"

I was able to round up 14 of the 17 SFDB Editors and convince them to cast their votes this month. The voting was very even but in the end, Sex and the Beach's passionate post about fishing off the southwest coast of Florida edged out the rest of the field.

This was an extremely painful choice. 4 excellent posts - congratulations to all!

Read 'em and voted. Actually, read 'em and wept. Foodie posts make me crazy and that obscenely long one was a menu of the obscure and pretentious. I can't for the life of me figure out what makes reading about food interesting. Ditto the cruise. Can't we just sum up all of this and say, If you have enough money to spend, you can get always find somebody else to take it and give you whatever you want. Then go tell other people who also find this sufficiently impressive to give a shit. Which I guess is what that blog is all about,.

Long Play does good work but his writing is tedious and his presentation lacks direction: his interviews ramble and don't hang together very well. I find myself skimming.

So I voted for Maria's treatment of her fishing experience, something I know a little about from my time with IGFA, and can see its genuineness, validity, and sensitivity. She wrote it rather well and the photos are excellent.

I know -- tough crowd.

Although I’m not a fisherman myself, I’ve done it a lot with my dad and friends more for the fun of being with them than actually catching anything. In fact, the last few times I’ve been fishing, it was catch-and-release. “Fishing Adventures in Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands” was exactly the kind of thing I like doing, and she told the tale with a sense of fun and adventure that took me along with her.

Congrats to Maria at Sex and the Beach for her win.
