Illeana Ros-Lehtinen's Hypocrisy

1. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) on President Obama’s nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense.
“I am deeply disappointed in President Obama’s nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska as our nation’s next Secretary of Defense. [...]

"During his time in Congress, Senator Hagel supported legislation that would have provided a lifeline to the decrepit Castro regime that for the last half a century has exploited the Cuban people and posed a severe security threat to the U.S.

2. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) on Paul Ryan, Vice President nominee, who was opposed to the Cuban embargo as late as 2008...

Pedro Portal / EL Nuevo Herald

That's Paul Ryan in the blue checked shirt coming through the door of Versailles with Illeana last year during the campaign. And that's also Ileana enthusiastically cheering him on during a subsequent rally that no doubt followed sips of cafecito.

Because Cuba and the Cuban people really only matter to hardliners like Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen when it's politically convenient and serves a purpose...primarily that of the Republican Party.

You write good political columns...how about coming over to the dark side of local politics.

I can't stand local politics, GoD.

I can't either, but someone has got to uncover it -- And you are such a good writer. The worst part is going to the meetings and hearing the politicians recite rehearsed lobbyist speak. The disheartening thing about writing about the local stuff: I do all the work to cover the local bull crap (watch the videos or go to the meetings) and my blogs on idiotic, insignificant things get three times the views and coverage.

It's an interesting characteristic of blogging.

I'm not convinced that the majority of people who read blogs do so because they desire in-depth or heavy discussion of complex issues. To make matters worse, it's my opinion that politics turns off everyone but a small group of readers.

The light-hearted, easy and [most importantly] quick reads, almost always generate the most interest, I think.

It also helps that search engines also seem to like the the easy stuff, too...because that's what most readers are reading and/or searching for.
