Your Evening Sift

Lots of posting going on in the South Florida blogosphere. The Art Basel Hype Machine is slowly winding up but hasn't quite hit full speed yet. Get ready. Here's your evening Sift.

B- The latest on the Alan Gross case from The Cuban Triangle.

Of course Mr. Gross was making plenty of money too, and it sort of jumps off the page that the lawsuit assigns responsibility to everyone but Mr. Gross for the trips that he himself made to Cuba, even after perceiving the dangers. It should also be noted that while Mr. Gross was issuing his warnings, he also continued his modus operandi of traveling to Cuba along with American Jewish delegations and having unwitting members of those delegations carry some of his equipment. Not a nice guy.

C- Eye on Miami notes a Biscayne Times article on the drive to bring casinos to Miami.

The article names supporters, lobbyists, funding, Pac's and identifies which politicians got money from Genting and other gambling interests. I am very interested to know where casino money is going. It is all there: A primer on the issue for beginners and political wonks alike.

D- What is a Big Rain Day? Go Hydrology! answers.

E- Florida Keys Girl highly recommends Piola in Hallandale for their pizza.

Both pies were absolutely delicious. They had a bit more oil than the bone-dry style of Onlywood, but were nonetheless really satisfying. (And not just because we were starving and nothing else was open, either!)

F- Shorter Gun Free Zone...

G- Curbed Miami shows us an $18.5 million penthouse at Ocean House in SoFi.

The unit, at 4,176 square feet, comes with four bedrooms and 5.5 baths, an oceanview rooftop pool, a 100 inch TV, a $500,000 audio/video and home automation system, hidden LED TVs in all the bathrooms, an outdoor gas fire pit, and a rooftop garden with full size palm trees.
