The Cooler

It's a strange mix of stories this morning. See for yourself.

A- Herald: You gotta wonder if Scott helped in any way.
On Thursday, Kimberly Rothstein, 38, was charged along with her civil lawyer, Scott F. Saidel, 45, and her friend, Stacie Weisman, 49, with plotting to hide and sell more than $1 million worth of jewelry, watches and coins before IRS agents seized Scott Rothstein’s assets.

The three defendants were charged in federal court with money-laundering conspiracy, obstruction of justice and tampering with a witness: Scott Rothstein himself. The way the three were charged, via a document called an “information,’’ means they are likely to plead guilty in the near future.
B- Herald: Strange.
A South Florida doctor arrested and accused of torturing a dog to death last week committed suicide on Thursday, a day after being released from jail, Miami-Dade police said.

Isaias Lerner, 65, a cardiologist attached to the South Broward Physicians Group in Coconut Creek, had been charged with one count of animal cruelty with intent to kill. He had bonded out of jail on Wednesday.

Thursday afternoon, Bay Harbor Islands police responded to a call of shooting at Lerner’s home. Arriving officers found Lerner dead inside the home. Police have ruled his death a suicide.
C- Herald: Morin.

D- NBC Miami: Life in South Florida.
Eight adults were stranded in the Everglades Thursday evening after their air boat experienced a mechanical failure, authorities said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the boat was located about one mile west of the Miami River and 10 miles north of Interstate 75.
E- WPTV: Stupid.
PALM BEACH CONTY, Fla. - Some members of Palm Beach County law enforcement are being shown in several compromising photographs. The officers, though, are not facing any disciplinary action. Both the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the West Palm Beach Police Department say the officers in these photos, with an unidentified naked woman, are not breaking any rules.

The snapshots were taken seven years ago but published Thursday by former Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Dougan. Dougan runs www.PBSOtalk.com , a website that is overtly critical of his previous employer.

The photos were said to be taken on October 15, 2005 by a bartender at a golf tournament at Sherbrooke Golf & Country Club in Lake Worth. In multiple photographs, an unidentified naked woman is flanked by several men. Among the men, is PBSO Major Robert VanReeth, who currently oversees the Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs division. That division is tasked with investigating the conduct of PBSO employees. Also pictured is VanReeth's nephew, Joseph, and Lou Penque. Both men are officers with the West Palm Beach Police Department.
