...and the video...
But what you probably don't know about Van Duzer is that he's a registered Republican who also has his own foundation that helps families in need in the St. Lucie County area.
Remember that in the coming days as Republicans like Yale professor and Babalu Blog contributor Dr. Carlos Eire criticize and mock [via Twitter] a good man like Van Duzer for the excitement he shows for the President of the United States.
Over the past year we've seen them clap for executions, cheer on letting the uninsured die and boo a gay soldier. So it really shouldn't surprise anyone that some Republicans (and a Yale professor, at that) will deride a small business owner who voluntarily assists those less fortunate than the rest of us.

I had gerat appreciation for Prof. Eire's literary works before seeing him in action at Blahblahlu. It's sad to see an obviously educated man play in the mud with such glee.
Great moment! We need light-hearted moments like this no matter what the political affiliation.
As a past student of Dr. Eire, it surprises me to learn that he's this kind of person. He doesn't reveal his political leanings in class and comes across as very refined. This is rather disturbing and shocking.
Hi. The last time I checked it was not illegal for a Yale professor to be a political conservative. I dislike President Obama because he is a terrible leader and clueless about many things, not because I hate the poor. I was poor once, so I know what it is like to be at the bottom. Grow up. Take stock of your own prejudices. You should be defending freedom of speech. Carlos Eire
Aw, someone hurt Dr. Eire's fee-fees.
Dr. Eire...no one is saying that it's illegal for you to be giving your opinion. Certainly, you don't have to like Obama. But there is a standard of discourse expected from an academic such as yourself that is not met and is quite surprising when you deride and mock someone like Van Duzer simply because he was excited to meet the President.
Having said that, I also completely understand that hanging around Babalu naturally lowers the bar when it comes to rational and intellectual dialogue.
Understanding the Constitution like you do, surely you also recognize my right to comment on your posts, too.
Thanks for stopping by.

I agree 100% with Yale Professor Eire when he notes it is NOT illegal for a Yale professor to ne a political conservative. And while I'm not clear on exactly who it is who suggests otherwise, I am also confident that it is not illegal for a Yale professor to be an arrogant misguided prejudiced choad immune to criticism and oblivious to facts. That's what tenure buys, after all, along with giving voice to imbecilic insights into what is legal and illegal in the world of academic fantasy.
PS: After eight years of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, it's hilarious to hear a conservative complain about Mr. Obama being a "terrible leader and clueless on many things."
Certainly they must teach a course in Irony at Yale. Perhaps the good doctor should avail himself of it.
Here's the deal: after living in a totalitarian state and having relatives imprisoned, tortured, and murdered for speaking their minds, I treasure freedom of expression. I also treasure differences of opinion. That is what makes this country great. I relish the fact that you can openly call me a buffoon and make fun of me, just as I treasure my freedom to call any president of any country a buffoon, too. No problem.
Dr. Eire...this post did not call you a buffoon or challenge your freedom of speech. It merely noted your displeasure with a good American solely and simply because he was excited to see our President.
I'm not sure what that has to do with your extreme malevolence against the President but it's my opinion that your criticism should stay directed against him and not include a pillar of the local community who was just happy that the President visited his business.
As a side note, I'm not sure what you see in those knuckle draggers at Babalu, but I have no doubt that they got the better part of the deal when you started writing for them.

Man, this is getting as nit-picking as the best scholarship. No, you did not use the word "buffoon," but your post and the comments that followed most certainly implied it. No, you did not challenge my freedom of speech, specifically, but you and those who commented maligned my character for simply having a difference of opinion and for contributing to Babalu. That is the same as saying I should not express what I think. As for the "knuckle draggers" on that website. Well... I suppose you just called me one too. Thanks. I turn the other cheek. God bless you. Have a wonderful life, and an even better afterlife. I will pray for you every day, till the day I die. Hope to laugh about all this with you for eternity. Many blessings on you and yours. Bye. Until I see you up there, wherever God is, this will be the last you hear from me directly. In the meantime, lighten up my friend, and allow others to disagree with you.
Another irony... you'd never see an exchange like this at certain other blogs that I could name, including the one that won't let me comment there (*cough Babalu cough*).
"...lighten up my friend, and allow others to disagree with you."
Says the man who initiated all this by attacking a pizza shop owner because he hugged a President he can't stand.
Sir, if I maligned your character simply by highlighting your words then that ought to tell you something about what you said.
Have a great day.
