Lying Liars On The Right

Although I don't totally understand why conservative extremists have come to the defense of the Egyptian-American Coptic Christian filmmaker whose reprehensible movie goaded radical Islamists and resulted in the deaths of 4 American State Department employees serving overseas, I think it has something to do with the fact that they identify and sympathize with the filmmaker's hate and loathing of Muslims and place that above the lives of the Americans.

Locally, Cuba-centric right-wing bloggers at Babalu have also been defending the filmmaker by parroting the disinformation and falsehoods being disseminated by other extremist sources. Information like the U.S. ambassador to Libya was dragged through the streets and sodomized after he was killed. He wasn't. Information that the Marines at the U.S. Embassy in Egypt didn't have live ammo. They did.

And now these right-wing propagandists are posting photos like these...

...and representing them to be the filmmaker being detained and hauled away by law enforcement for interrogation.

As has been the case throughout this tragedy, this is just another instance of right-wing extremists at work to shape the message.

From AFP...
Journalists gathered outside the home of a 55-year-old Coptic Christian, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, in the city’s southern suburbs, after reports he had directed the movie that triggered protests in the Muslim world.

There was no sign at the house of Nakoula, who is thought to have uploaded a trailer for the movie to the YouTube video-sharing site under the pseudonym “Sam Bacile,” but police said he had asked for protections. [SFDB emphasis]

“We did receive the call and we did respond. We’re providing public safety and we will continue to do so,” said Steve Whitman, a spokesman for the county sheriff in Cerritos, 24 miles (40 kilometers) south of Los Angeles.
And this...
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Southern California filmmaker linked to an anti-Islamic movie inflaming protests across the Middle East was interviewed Saturday at a Los Angeles sheriff's station and afterward decided not to return to his home -- possibly heading into hiding, authorities said.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was interviewed by federal probation officers for about half an hour at the station shortly after midnight in his hometown of Cerritos, said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County sheriff's department.

After that, deputies dropped Nakoula off at an undisclosed location.

"He is gone. We don't know where he went," Whitmore said. "He said he is not going back to his home."

Federal officials are investigating whether Nakoula, who has been convicted of financial crimes, has violated the terms of his five-year probation. If so, a judge could send him back to prison.

Nakoula went voluntarily to the station, wearing a coat, hat, scarf and glasses that concealed his appearance. His home has been besieged by media for several days.

Whitmore said Nakoula was not handcuffed and the heavy apparel was his idea. [SFDB emphasis]
So, once again, what is reality and what right-wing shills like Babalu Blog are feeding you are two different things.

Ignore them. Ignore all of them.

When you have individuals who are willing to side with a felon who purposefully incited extremists responsible for killing Americans overseas, you have to remember that these are folks who are capable of doing and saying anything...anything...to advance their political agenda and ideology.

Lying through their teeth is the most innocent part of that.

Yet to come: who is financially backing this filmmaker. That could be extremely interesting.
