Your Evening Sift

Friday Eve in South Florida. Although the SFDB Weekend Widget in the right sidebar isn't all that busy, there still are some things going on that you might want to check out. Right after you finish your evening Sift.

A- Transit Miami looks back in history at the origins of Coral Gables.
87 years ago today, an advertisement ran in the Miami Daily News promoting the sale of property in the Biltmore and Country Club VI Sections of Coral Gables. This ad offers a unique view of Miami’s first planned community, Coral Gables, designed by George Merrick during the 1920′s land boom. Coral Gables was developed entirely upon the City Beautiful movement, featuring grand civic spaces, public monuments, and prominent architectural symbols such as the Biltmore Hotel.
B- Culture Designers notes the Herald's coverage of Parisian street artist Space Invader.
Space Invader is notoriously secretive, as are most street artists, so the in depth interview gave a rare look at his current jaunt around our fair city. Occasionally, it’s possible to predict appearances by some of the more prolific names in the scene. The London Olympics served as a perfect example of artists descending on a city to leave their mark and make a statement. But rarely will an artist broadcast to the world more or less where they’ll be and when.
C- Curbed Miami links to an expose that showcases HGTV's star interior designer David Bromstad's Miami Beach condo.

D- What's really bothersome about Republican Todd Aiken's ignorant statement...at Salty Eggs.
What outrages me is not that a Republican senatorial candidate is virulently against women’s rights. What outrages me is that anyone who says something like “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down” in regards to rape is actually taken seriously as a candidate. And not because he’s anti-abortion but because he believes something that is so unbelievably, obviously untrue.
E- Estiatorio Milos is highly recommended by The Chowfather.
Milos recently opened in the "south of Fifth Street" neighborhood of South Beach one block from Joe's. This is the fifth Milos to open worldwide with other well regarded spots located in Montreal, New York, Athens and Las Vegas.

Why is Milos so good? It's a simple formula. They are serving high quality, simply seasoned, perfectly cooked, great tasting fresh fish. I've enjoyed everything I have tried thus far and look forward to many more meals lunches there.
F- Political Cortadito has even more amazing absentee ballot voting information including someone who likes to call themselves The Queen of Absentee Ballots.
There are more absentee ballot fraud claims and irregularities in two state house races — one of them a Democratic primary with a new “absentee ballot queen” that puts the moniker right on her business card.
