The Cooler

Here's a few of the more interesting stories grabbed from this morning's mainstream media feeds.

A- Sun-Sentinel: And give yourself plenty of time.
All aboard, baseball fans. Tri-Rail will run special trains to serve fans attending Marlins home games at night, starting with Wednesday's Opening Day game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

To get to the games, take Tri-Rail to the Metrorail Transfer Station in Hialeah, then switch to Metrorail and continue to Culmer Station in Overtown. From there, board a shuttle provided by Miami-Dade Transit to and from Marlins Park.
B- Sun-Sentinel: Scorned women and such.
SUNRISE — A woman says she had sex with Officer David McCann when he was on the clock — and has the journal to prove it.

But McCann, a 13-year veteran officer who is married with children, says their trysts took place only when he was off duty.

[...]

Glennon cross-referenced dates and times in the spreadsheet with McCann's time card to show he was on duty when the two had sex.

"We didn't take her word for it," Glennon said. "We looked at his time cards to verify when he was working."

The spreadsheet's first entry, dated May 18, 2009, says: "Nooner sex."

The last entry, on June 8, 2011, reads: "Hugging — No sex still on a break/He says next time we're together we'll have a baby."
C- Sun-Sentinel: Darwin nods.
A pawn shop customer was recovering from a bullet wound to his buttocks after being shot accidentally, according to Margate Police.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at David Bari's Jewelry and Loan at 167 S. State Road 7, in Margate, Sgt. Efrain Suarez said.

"The owner was showing the gun and it turned out to be loaded and it accidentally shot the customer," Suarez said.
D- CBS4: Big of him.
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It’s truly a new era for the Miami Marlins as the team has agreed to pay $40,000 to convert four municipal lots into parking for residents living around the stadium.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is going to pay for the improvements and the team will operate the lots. The move comes less than a week after the Marlins were originally asked to pay for the costs of changing the lots to parking.

“We appreciate having this ballpark in Little Havana, we’re proud to be in Little Havana,” said team president David Samson. “It’s all about being a great neighbor and taking care of the people we live with every day now.”

When a reporter pointed out that some residents will have to walk a distance from the parking lots to their homes, Samson replied, “I would assume you’d have to walk a few blocks, but that would be good. It’s nice to walk in Miami.”
E- WPTV: Unfit to parent.
PORT ST. LUCIE — A 22-year-old woman who said she smoked marijuana while pregnant was arrested Monday on a felony child neglect charge, according to affidavits released Tuesday.

[...]

In talking with a DCF investigator, Reeder and Nelson said they smoked marijuana just before officials arrived while the baby was in the home.

"She (Reeder) also confirmed that she did smoke marijuana while pregnant and that she currently breast feeds the baby," an affidavit states.
