Jim Messina, who is helming the president's reelection effort, tweeted a line from a column written by The Washington Post's Dana Milbank, in which he argues that Republicans will struggle to attract the Latino vote after coming out against the DREAM immigration reform act.Our friends at Babalu felt this food remark was apparently at least as "insensitive" as former Miami Herald Editor Tom Fiedler's canine reference back in the day.
"Line of the day from WAPO's Dana Milbank: 'The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos,' " Messina tweeted.
But the comments drew rebuke from Republicans, who argued the reference to the deep-fried burrito was culturally insensitive.
I'm going to leave it up to Indecision Forever to give this the commentary it deserves.
Never ever never reference a chimichanga — or, for that matter, any type of stuffed tortilla-based foodstuff — to a person of Latin American heritage. It's almost as bad as talking about a stromboli in front of an Italian. Or meatloaf in front of a WASP. (Actually, if I'm not mistaken, an ill-timed meatloaf quip was a contributing factor in the Protestant Reformation.)Moving on...
Because tomorrow it will be something else.

The remark was almost as stupid as it is unfunny and insignificant. It's also worth noting that there's a good chance a chimichanga isn't even Latin -- among the claimants for its origin is a redneck named Woody Johnson (honest -- I didn't invent that.)
But the little chuiwhinewhines gotta have something to work on, now that unemployment is trending down, the stock market trending up, and the 'Pub candidates themselves as popular as a naked Jery Sandusky with crotch rot in a kiddy pool.
I take it that he was trying to be funny. Maybe Messina should stick to organizing reelection campaigns and leave the stand up to professionals. What a way to create something outta nothing. smh.
I had to laugh at the babalosers who consistently make fun of other Latin groups, now getting all fake-outraged about this.
