The Cooler

Some great news out there this morning. Here's a small taste of it.

A- Sun-Sentinel: Where's Carlos Miller when you really need him?
Pop sensation Justin Bieber appears to be visiting Miami-Dade — or so believe hundreds of teenager girls who have camped out outside The Hit Factory recording studio in North Miami Beach.

Bieber is said to be at the studio recording his upcoming album Believe.

Thursday night, the mob of teens were camped outside the studio at 1995 NE 150th St. for the second night after Bieber tweeted out a photograph of himself standing in front of the black wrought-iron gate that surrounds the studio gate, fans standing behind him. There have also been photographs of him skateboarding and hanging out with rapper Lil Wayne.
B- Sun-Sentinel: Neanderthals, and Seinfeld DVD collectors, love Port St. Lucie.
PORT ST. LUCIE— The anti-Semitic vandalism that for more than a month has been appearing at businesses along Southeast Port St. Lucie Boulevard has spread to nearby residential neighborhoods, Port St. Lucie Police incident reports show.

Police received reports of seven more incidents where homeowners found DVDs of the '90s sitcom "Seinfeld" left on their driveway with anti-Semitic images and references.
C- Sun-Sentinel: Chan Lowe.

D- Palm Beach Post: Allen West uses Saul Alinsky tactics.
But then West went into Alinsky mode by saying this to Obama and the Democratic leadership in Washington:

"Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America."

Within two minutes, that became news. And it remained news long after Cain's endorsement faded into irrelevance.

As Alinsky wrote: "The job of the organizer is to maneuver and bait the establishment so that it will publicly attack him as a 'dangerous enemy.' "

West was just baiting people to condemn him for saying the president should leave America. The condemnation came quickly.
E- TC Palm: Willie Nelson still has groupies!
Gina Julian, 45, of Daytona Beach was arrested for breaking through security lines as the nationally-known singer was getting off his tour bus at the Sunrise Theatre on Wednesday evening.

Officers held her face down on the ground as Nelson went into the theater to perform a concert before 1,200 people.

While Nelson sang blues songs such as, "Help Me Make It Through the Night," Julian was put in the St. Lucie County Jail. She is charged with possession of marijuana, resisting officers without violence and trespassing after warning. On Thursday she remained in jail under a $1,500 bail, a jail official said.

She "ignored numerous requests to leave" as she sat the entrance door and wasn't on a visitors list, according to police reports.
F- CBS4: Video, sod is laid at Marlins Park.
With Marlins Park at 94-percent completion, workers began laying the first few thousand square feet of grass by rolling out huge, 50-foot rolls of sod that are four feet wide.
G- WPLG: The spirit of the Orange Bowl lives on!
MIAMI - In two months, the new Marlins Ballpark and all its gleaming glory will open to fans. But it turns out fans with single-game tickets won't likely be allowed to park in the newly-built parking garages surrounding the ballpark.

The 5,700 spaces in the four new garages are reserved for season ticket holders and VIPs.

With few options for public transportation -- no Metrobus shuttles, and a limited-route trolley in the works -- fans might have to look back to their old Orange Bowl days when neighbors like Jorge Argenal in Little Havana happily gave up their front yards for parking.

  2. E - Willie's playing the Broward Center next week. Wonder if she'll drive down to get arrested again?

  3. G: 74,000 people and their cars used to get to the Orange Bowl for Hurricanes and Dolphins games. And some sell-out concerts, soccer games, etc. that were held there.
If the capacity of the stadium is only half that at 37,000 with garages added for parking, why are so many people making such a big deal about parking and transportation?

  4. D -- I think we had this conversation yesterday. West was just expertly baiting the media. No surprise he's a Master Baiter.

  5. G - "happily giving up his front yard for parking" -- translated to : happily seizing the county provided opportunity to make some tax free money by charging cash for parking - no sales tax, no income tax...this is why we call our beloved county the Banana Republic!
