I'd like to believe that the message I left Sunday morning on Mr. West's answering machine in Washington advising him that he doesn't speak for me and some other niceties caused him to rethink things but who knows.
It's rather enjoyable to watch bullies go slink off into the shadows with their heads down.

After sitting through the video, I can only conclude that the clip isn't the one the commentary addresses. West doesn't "turn tail and run," on the contrary, he handles the questions calmly and with 'way more aplomb than I've ever seen him display. Yes, his remarks at the podium are 'way off and 'way out and 'way wrong, as usual. But he did fine with the interview. In two of three questions, I'd give him the edge over that clown-faced fake-voice harlot with thr hair-do.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't watch teevee.
As always, Rick's observations of those whose ideology does not jive with his continue to be distorted. Allen West did not "turn tail and run," but to the opposite confronted Ms. O'Brian questions, with a logical question of his own that underscore the media's obsession with an edited for TV sound clip promoting controversy.
ReplyDeleteOne other point. Rick, its ok that you don't agree with your representative. I was not thrilled that Wasserman- Schultz represented me in the past either: )
I didn't view the video, unnecessary since the entire human race except for some social Darwinist tea party nutjobs understands that uncle tom west is nothing but a certifiably idiotic moron, but keep up the good work Rick, ignore the pharmaceutically lobotomized trolls.
ReplyDeleteSquathole...West speaks but does he say anything that to answer the question that was posed to him? In my opinion, he doesn't. In fact, he denies saying what he said and which got him wild applause from the Republicans in attendance. That's cowardly, in my opinon, and I'm kinda surprised you give the guy a pass on something like this.
ReplyDeleteZed....come talk to me when Wasserman-Schultz starts telling conservatives to leave and get the hell out of the country.
I give you that he didn't say much, but I don't agree that he backed off. He said if she listened to the whole speech (which I sure didn't, altho I watched more than Jeb who's happy to label West an Uncle Tom from a great distance) she'd understand the context, which (I'm guessing) is that BHO's political ideology, policies, and approach to problems are bad, wrong-headed, and downright unAmerican, and they (not the President and his minions) need to be excised. The talking head's question about "throwing the president out" was dumb deliberately inflammatory, and he kept his cool.
ReplyDeleteThe larger point, though, is that it doesn't really matter what he or any of these stooges say. It's only for the moment, designed to entertain their drooling sycophants, just as the so-called journalists who question them afterwards are only interested in getting something juicy enough to boost their station's ratings and their own careers. This is why I can't stomach more than a few seconds of it.
west is a terrible waste of a congressional seat and his ravings are nothing short of embarrassing. It's a shame we lack the means and the will to expose him properly, and vote him out of office.
Squathole, he's claiming that he never told the President and other prominent Democrats and people of liberal persuasion who he disagrees with to take their message and leave the country. More specifically, "get the hell out." You're actually going to agree with him and go with his contention that he did not say that at all and something in the previous 11 minutes of the speech actually clears that very clear statement up? Really? "Deliberately inflammatory?" It's what he said!
ReplyDeleteAny time a sitting U.S. Congressman who is getting paid with taxpayer's monies tells 50% of Americans to leave the country [and he did, listen to it], I take notice. I know for some it ain't a big deal and they actually have more problems with the TV anchor who's asking the questions, but....really, Squathole. With all the things that bother you, this doesn't?
Have we grown that cynical and apathetic?
.
Among the stupid things he said was, take your message out of the country. Sell it somewhere else, we ain't buyin'. Fine. He also said, more or less, Go with it when you do. Who in his right mind believes he means that literally? Do you think Rep Allan West seriously suggests that the president, Nancy Pelosi, and Debbie Washerman Scullz should exile themselves? That's laughable, and that screechy voiced anchorthing knows it. He called her on it, and he was right.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he and his torch-and-pitchfork senior citizens get off on saying that, but nobody could possibly take it at face value.... unless of course, suggesting she does makes for good teevee and re-tweetage.
No, this really doesn't bother me, mostly because it's impossible for me to take this choad any more seriously than I do the Westboro Baptist Church, another outfit that delights in exploiting the outrageous. The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. And watching the condescending, smarmy media critters at work nauseates me a whole lot more than the pols.
So yeah, I guess I'm that cynical.
Of course it's rhetorical but the larger point, as you're fully aware, is that West and his ilk want to do away with liberalism. There is no room for other ideologies in their world and this little show was just another demonstration of that line of thinking. The fact that he can sit there and calmly look into the camera and deny saying what the video just showed him saying (remember Santorum and the blah people?) instead of owning up to his words is cowardly and it's wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnd for people (other than the 20%'ers) to defend that conduct or dismiss it as inconsequential shows just how complacent and apathetic we've become about American politics today.
.
I agree with Squathole's last comment, especially this part - Among the stupid things he said was, take your message out of the country.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't deny what he said, Rick. She baited him, he didn't take the bait.
All that said, this particular politician is a joke and people that take him seriously, or that have elected him as a member of government, are a joke too.
You guys can all think what you want, of course. But the only person qualified to judge Allen West is Alan Grayson.
