It's here. All year long the SFDB Editors have diligently selected the Posts of the Month and now it's time to name Numero Uno for 2011. Looking back over the PotM's, it has definitely been a Beached Miami kind of year but Eye on Miami has also had a strong showing and has fielded a couple entries that will be considered. And, of course, there are all the other excellent posts, too.
I've mulled over what this year's Grand Prize should be and since everyone already has a new iPad or iPhone or is getting around town in a decent set of wheels, I'm thinking a $75 Amazon gift certificate will make the winner quite happy. It should. You don't see the Miami New Times handing out cash like this, do you? Damn straight.
The 14 SFDB Editors will have until January 31st at high noon to reread the nominee posts and cast their votes, although if history is any indicator, I will be chasing after some of them during the evening of the 30th in a last minute frenzy. [Eye on Miami, I'm looking at you.]
Okay, so here are the nominees...
Nominee #1: "New World Symphony To Create A New Multimedia World In Gehry Hall"
[South Florida Classical Review, January]
Nominee #2: "Bargain Shopping in the Danger Zone"
[Miami Beach 411, February]
Nominee #3: "Sold!"
[Beached Miami, March]
Nominee #4:"Peppermint Candy"
[Ipanemic, April]
Nominee #5: "Words and Pictures"
[Hidden City, May]
Nominee #6: "For The Love Of Lychees"
[Redland Rambles, June]
Nominee #7: "Y&T Records: 30 Years Of Music In One Room"
[Beached Miami, July]
Nominee #8: "Port of Miami Dredge Project Could Kill Rare ‘Super’ Coral"
[Beached Miami, August]
Nominee #9:"Absentee Ballot Fraud" (3 Parts)
[Eye on Miami, September]
Nominee #10: Rebeca Sosa Thanks Eye On Miami And We Thank The Commissioner.
[Eye on Miami, November]
Nominee #11: Metrorail ‘Bike and Ride’ Gets a Boost With New Hanging Bike Racks
[Transit Miami, December]
Just a couple notes: SFDB was on vacation for most of October and a Post of the Month was not selected. Also, I'm in the process of designing a more attractive Post of the Year logo. I can't guarantee that it's going to be a work of art but it should be something a little better than the above effort.
There's your nominees, folks. Some great blogging so make sure you check them out and if you have any comments, feel free to leave them below.

Rick, I can't remember exactly when you axed it, but is there no reader's choice this year? I think a lot of the nominees (myself included) are on your list of editors. Not suggesting that we'd selfishly vote for ourselves without properly evaluating the rest, but there is a $75 Amazon gift certificate at stake. And I know I can buy a lot of things at Amazon for $75. :) I kid. Seriously, no reader's choice?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Scott, the Reader's Choice was dumped in 2010 because it turned into a social media popularity contest. It wasn't about the best post, it was about who could round up the most votes via their Twitter, Facebook and blogs. So I decided to go with only the Editors.
DeleteOf course there will be a little bias on the part of the Editors who have posts in the running. That's why there are 14 Editors.

Oh, I remember the popularity contest factor of it. No, I respect everyone's judgement and it's evident from editor comments in the past that it's an excellent team. Especially that ipanemic. If I were an editor, I would sooooo vote for him. ;) Kidding. This is really such a tough and varied list of nominees. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. It's an honor to be in such good company, both as a nominee and as an editor. Thanks, Rick.
ReplyDeleteDid you send the email with the poll? I don't have it so just checking.
ReplyDeleteShould be out this weekend!

I'm proud that Beached Miami is included on this all-around high-quality list and thankful to Rick for supporting the local 'osphere everyday. The $75 Amazon bucks would be nice, but I'll try not to let the prospect of owning the Breaking Bad boxset cloud my judgment.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I am honored to be included in such august company. Thank you, sir, for the work you do.
