Your Evening Sift

I have a great evening Sift for you this TGIF Christmas Eve Eve. Grab a chair and make yourself comfortable. Enjoy.

A- I like the way Beached Miami videoed their telephone interview with Gilbert Gottfried.

B- Belle Isle Blog describes yet another battle raging on Miami Beach in the War on Christmas. Won't someone tell these people that we are a Christian Nation?
Each night since Hanukkah began on Tuesday, Friends of Lubavich has held a parade of as many as 100 cars with Menorahs on their roofs. The caravan, escorted by Miami Beach Police, starts on Alton Road at 12 Street and heads north to 17th Street, then east the Washington Avenue, south to Ocean Drive, then north and on and on….to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale.
C- Burger Beast posts a short instructional video on how chicharrones are made at El Jefe Luchador in Deerfield Beach.

D- Paseo is a great little Caribbean cafe in Key West, according to Florida Keys Girl.
On the corner of Eaton Street and Grinnell, in the former home of Paradise Cafe, sits the new Paseo. You won’t find a fancy sign or any other indication that what exists inside is truly sensational, but it is. The owner of Paseo is so secretive, he comes in to make the sauces when they are closed on Mondays and Tuessdays, and doesn’t share the secrets with anyone. The result? Caribbean food that is outrageously good.
E- Shorter Gun Free Zone...
I prefer gals who are more like guys.
F- There's a kickass new burger joint opening in the Grove tomorrow that is giving away free beer the entire first week they're open, so says Eater Miami.
Owner Matthew Kuscher, who spent 11 years at Houston's, plans to include some of his Puerto Rican heritage into the menu, which will include his own version of a frita: a pressed burger schmeared with guava jelly, melted gruyere and chopped French fries, and a donut burger with bacon and cheese.
G- 17 new photos are up at The Street.

H- Miami Beach 411's Carlos Miller checks out an "urban bike" that he observed during his morning cup of coffee.
The fold-up bicycle he is selling comes with carrying case, air pump, tool kit and instructions.

It’s not the most comfortable looking bicycle but it’s not meant for long distances, he said.

It’s more of an urban bike, perfect for riding to the Metrorail before folding it up and carrying it inside with you, then using it ride to your office in downtown, for example.
I- Prominent conservatives think there is something devious about the White House's Christmas card this year even though it carries the same message that it always has...at Bark Bark Woof Woof.

B - I don't see this as a "war on Christmas" at all. It's people celebrating Hannukka. Good for them. Why do you always have to put down Christian faith just because Republicans push it with their politics? I was raised catholic but am non-practicing and really not religious at all. But as a longtime reader of your blog I find your comments about Christianity somewhat offensive and anti-semetic. Just being honest.

Steve....you really need to read this blog more.

Let me try to explain, although I cringe that I have to.

There is a certain portion of this country that feels that Christianity is being threatened by agnostics and liberalism and gays and Islam and the President's Christmas card. Those are the people that I'm targeting by this reference.

"B" isn't about Christianity or Judaism or any other religion...it's about intolerant bigots in this country.

As a sidenote, do you know what anti-Semitic means?

I didn't know it only applied to Judaism. Whatever. I still find your constant bashing of anything associated with Christianity to be offensive. If you dont give a crap, just say so. Just because of your hatred towards Republicans who feel it should be the only religion that matters doesn't mean everyone who practices that religion feels threatened by other religions.

Let me repeat:

"B" isn't about Christianity or Judaism or any other religion...it's about intolerant bigots in this country.

Not all Christians are bigots, but there certainly are bigots who are Christians.

I have a problem with intolerance whether that person is a Muslim, a Jew, an atheist, a Christian, a Democrat or a Republican.

Sorry you're offended, but I think that offense is originating from your misinterpretation of the post.

Was intrigued by the comments on this so I jumped over to Belle Isle Blog to read what was posted there, as well. What's the mix of religion on Miami Beach anyway? I'd be really curious to know that. I know there's a large percentage (majority?) that follow Judaism.

It's interesting on the beach where you have so many condos and buildings which have both Christmas and Hanukkah decorations in the lobby. One building in particular has a huge Christmas tree and then constant music playing out of some stuffed animal or something playing Christmas carols. Thank God or someone for tolerance.

On a tangential note to battling Jews and Christians, a friend of mine who lives up in Palm Beach relayed the following story on facebook today:

"So {name withheld} is going into work in Boca Raton (the meanest city in the USA). He stops at CVS to buy candy for the kitchen and staff. There was a pick-up with a magnetic Santa and "Merry Christmas" on the door. A Jewish lady walks over and starts on the "Why do we have to see this every where?" " Why do you have to push Christmas all over the place?" in not too nice a tone.
The woman in the pick-up rolls down the window and says loudly "Barbara Streisand is a whore!" rendering the Jewish woman completely speechless.
Wish I'd been there to witness this classic moment."

I lol'd.
