Your Evening Sift

This driving back home from work in the dark is getting old and we're not even finished with the first week. Here's your Tuesday evening Sift.

A- The Heat Lightning offers a few suggestions to first-time Miami visitors.
Miami is an angry city filled with angry drivers and angry people who don’t make eye contact with or acknowledge one another unless absolutely necessary. We are not friendly. Cashiers will rarely respond well to jokes, much less smile. Bartenders will usually take a while to warm up. This isn’t because you’re a tourist; It’s because we hate everything. Don’t sweat it and don’t think tipping well will help. Tipping poorly WILL make it worse, however, so for everyone’s sake please tip decently.
B- Florida Keys Girl misses Jimmy Buffett's appearance on Duval Street but runs a 5K.
The course starts and ends at Salute! restaurant on Higg’s Beach, and goes along the beach for a while. It is beautiful. I was running (and walking and running and walking) using my handy interval timer, having not run in a while and desperately needing to train for the half marathon on Miami Beach that is rapidly approaching. (35 days, but who’s counting?).
C- Gun Free Zone thinks that guns have a proper place in church (and everywhere else, really) because of "critters" out there. Commenters fall in line accordingly.
But when you live in a mental vacuum, you ignore that there are critters out there. that ignore the sanctity of church. This just happened down here in beautiful Fort Lauderdale: 2 women robbed in church parking lot.
D- Eye on Miami finally found a quality Republican candidate.
This is the guy you need. He has passion and passion will win this presidential campaign, not Mr.999 sexual harasser, not the drunk guy making silly speeches in New Hampshire or any of the other losers.
E- A new restaurant called The Dutch is opening at the W South Beach, says Eater Miami.
On that menu: seafood and dishes "influenced by a range of flavors from the Caribbean to Morocco, the Gulf Coast to the West Coast and Cuba to Italy." An original marble counter at the center of the restaurant will be The Dutch’s oyster bar.
F- South Florida Food and Wine discusses the new look of the blog and the features that accompany it.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we have added South Florida Weekend Getaways to our list of topics that we will be covering where we will bring you fabulous getaway experiences and information from Palm Beach to Key West. It made sense to us early on to bring in weekend getaway and spa topics to the already existing food and wine coverage as they go hand-in-hand. Our methodology has not changed, we will continue to only write about places that we are “enthusiastic” about; “we are enthusiasts not critics”. This site is not about reviews, but about sharing dynamic experiences, we hope you’ll think they are as well.
