SFDB September Post Of The Month: The Nominees

Presenting the nominees for the September SFDB Post of the Month.

Nominee #1: "Deco Bike Rentals: Good For Locals, Not So Much For Visitors"

Miami Beach 411 takes a hard look at how DecoBike works in the real world and the way it stacks up to other bike rental alternatives on the Beach in this generously imaged and informative post.

Nominee #2: "Video Bite: Mangoes of Hawaii"

Even if you're not a mango fan, Miami Dish's smartly-edited and well-composed post about the International Mango Festival at Fairchild Gardens helps you appreciate the fruit that seems to be everywhere you turn during South Florida's summer season.

Nominee #3: "Absentee Ballot Fraud" [Part One, Part Two, Part Three]

In this important and significant three-part post, Eye on Miami waded into Miami-Dade's voting morass and explored the depths of this problem that threatens our democracy on the local level. I'm not sure if they proved just how prevalent the fraud actually is, but you get the sense that there is a lot more under the surface that Eye on Miami scratched.

Nominee #4: "Mac’s Club Deuce Bar – Mac turns 97!"

Thanks to a great job by Liam Crotty Photography, we all know Mac Klein from South Beach's Mac's Club Deuce a little better. Crotty attended Mac's 97th birthday party and shot some great images of the man who looks at least 20 years younger. Crotty threw in a little narrative about the day and shared some of his conversation with the birthday boy.

Nominee #5: "Candidate Permits Fast-Tracked?"

Political Cortadito seemingly catches a Hialeah business owner and political candidate red-handed getting special attention for his business by uncovering some damning emails and then confronting the business owner on camera. The result is a clumsy tap dance by the businessman and a very satisfied blogger. Although she still has yet to learn the art of embedding a YouTube video, the post is an extraordinary example of blogging that exceeds anything that the Herald can muster on their very best day.

So there are your five nominees. SFDB's illustrious panel of 15 Editors will be hard at work over the next week determining which of these fine posts will be September's SFDB Post of the Month. I'm going to ask them to get back to me by next Friday, October 14th, at noontime with their decision. The results should be announced here the following Monday.

As always, feel free to add your own thoughts about the nominated posts in the comments below.
