Your Evening Sift

It's Friday night and the blogging is right. Ugh. I know. Anywho [ha!], here's your excellent evening Sift [I really mean that]. And I'm still updating the SFDB Weekend Widget in the right sidebar. Enjoy.

A- Miami Beach 411 doesn't seem to think that a new stadium is going to change much when it comes to the Marlins.

There is some hope that the Miami Marlins can start a new tradition in the heart of the city. There is hope that the team can rally the community, and develop a loyal following among Miamians. But the way this is done is by listening to fans and appealing to them. And if the Miami Marlins don’t learn from the Florida Marlins’ mistakes, the only difference between them will be the color of all the empty seats.

C- Culture Designers posts an excellent video from a recent Big Brothers Big Sisters auction that showcases the good work that they are doing. Swampstyle makes a cameo appearance!

D- Wow. Political Cortadito is a one person wrecking crew in Hialeah politics.

Tony "Phony" Vega, the owner of a gun shop cited for building an illegal gun range last year, told a firefighter in July through a facebook message that Hernandez had offered to help him get his permits. "Yo Bud. I met with the Hernandez camp. They are gasping for support and offering sweet deals," Vega wrote to Eric Johnson, an 10-year veteran of the department and vice president of the firefighters union. "My range is getting fast tracked as a result."

Let Ladra say that again: "My range is getting fast tracked as a result."

This week, Vega said it was a dirty trick.

F- Yes, Ipanemic pushed his scooter across the Venetian Causeway today. He considers it "exercise."

Almost two and one-half hours, it took me. After I walked around the toll on the Venetian Causeway, I actually saw one of the other drivers from where I work. He was on his way home. Stopped. Talked. Thought I was crazy. Standing there, looking at the high-rises of downtown Miami way off in the distance and (panning to the left) seeing the high-rises of South Beach just as far off if not farther, I thought for a minute he might be right.
