The mere suggestion that the Florida Everglades should be exploited for oil or mineral resources is preposterous and ludicrous.

We have no snow covered mountains in Florida for a regular Spring thaw supply of fresh water.

Florida is a vast low lying peninsula surrounded by saltwater.

Not only are the Everglades our only fresh water source for millions of Floridians (nearly half of all) South and West of Lake Okeechobee, but just as importantly everyone needs to be reminded that it is that incessant never ending flow, that precious natural force of fresh water through our man made canals and natural aquifers, tributaries, and finally out through our estuaries that prevents sea water to encroach and come in land.

Without which, all sustainable life here would end.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas was so ahead of her time when in her 1947 "The Everglades: River of Grass" she dispelled the myth that the Everglades was but a mere swamp.

There are but one Everglades in the world, and it's ours.
