It was a total washout here in South Broward from 1 PM on. It was good for getting caught up on some blogging but not much else. Here's your slightly damp evening Sift.
A- The305.Com had one heckuva Old School Sunday going on today including this post on the Palmetto Speedway, which actually wasn't too far from the Hialeah Speedway.
B- More swampy commentary on South Florida life at Swampstyle.
C- Miamism gives Cecconi’s Soho Beach House 3 out of 5 stars for their mojito and I'm thinking that might just be a little generous.
D- South Florida Food and Wine casts the spotlight on Chef Daniel Buss of Fairmont Turnberry Isle in Aventura.
South Florida Food and Wine: What is your favorite item on your menu?E- In a surprising and refreshing bit of extreme local blogging, The Heat Lightning reviews Extremities at the Main Street Playhouse in Miami Lakes.
Daniel Buss: Anything that utilizes the seasons’ bounty. Right now, we have fresh local garlic scapes, the most amazing locally-grown melons, tomatoes and beans, and we always utilize Florida’s fresh fish. Now if you want to get really specific, I’d probably have to say that the braised short rib pappardelle and the local swordfish with fork-mashed potatoes, fennel and olive vinaigrette are a couple of my favorite items on our Cascata Grille restaurant menu.
Extremities is well written, performed, and directed and the acting is outstanding. Great staging and choreography was integral to this physically intense performance. The seriousness of the uncomfortable adult subject matter was cleverly laid out, consumable, and thought provoking.F- Did you make Mike LaMonica's latest film credits? And what do you think of Follow Friday?
When I jumped on Twitter about two years ago it seemed like the traditional #FF had more meaning than it does today. Mostly. There are still some who do them one by one, they give a reason and it has real meaning.G- South Florida Theatre Scene brings all the latest pieces of the Coconut Grove Playhouse saga together for your reading enjoyment.
The question that needs to be addressed is what, exactly, does Coconut Grove want to preserve; national renown for excellent theatrical productions, or the building? Because the two things may wind being mutually exclusive.H- Soul of Miami shares some photos from the Summer Super Kegger Beer Bash and Food Truck Rally at Tobacco Road.
I- Blind Tastes gets updated and we get to hear what SteveBM has been up to for the last couple months.
