Your Evening Sift

The SFDB Weekend Widget is still being updated in the right sidebar so make sure you continue to check it out through the weekend. Here's a great evening Sift for you.

A- Let's get going tonight with a visit to Miamism where we find out about a beautiful Miami Beach Mod Home and we also learn what the "Home Depot Effect" is all about.
There are Miami Beach homes and then there are Miami Beach Modern Homes! Yes we like Mediterranean homes or Spanish revival homes, but the HOT ones are definitely Miami Mod Homes.
B- Liz Tracy from The Heat Lightning gets some space in The Atlantic...and it doesn't involve whining about Sade tickets.

C- CG Burgers in Kendall is great, according to the Burger Beast.
On the “Sides” front you have 4 options: Hand Cut Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Zucchini Fries and Onion Rings. My pick hands down were the fresh cut fries. I enjoyed them each time I ordered them. Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings (one time they were a bit too oily) were good. My wife had the Zucchini Fries and loved them. I’m not a Zucchini kinda dude but they look appetizing.
D- Random Pixels tells us about Miami Herald photographer Al Diaz and his new blog.
Al has been with the Herald for over 28 years and in that time he's covered thousands of assignments. In short; he's seen it all and done it all.

What sets Al apart from a lot of veteran photographers is that he's got the same enthusiasm for his craft today that he had when he started at the Herald over 28 years ago.
E- Get your local theater information with South Florida Theatre Scene's weekly wrap up.

F- It's amazing that we have to plead with the Senate Judiciary Committee to get judgeships filled in the Southern District of Florida...but we do, as Southern District of Florida Blog explains.
Now, Chief Judge Moreno has written letters to Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Harry Reid urging confirmation by the full Senate of Kathy Williams and Bob Scola before the August recess.

G- Coconut Grove Grapevine has the latest on the slowly rotting Coconut Grove Playhouse and it isn't much.

H- The Cuban Triangle details how Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has managed to politicize something as simple as a photo contest being held by U.S. diplomats in Havana.
The Congresswoman did not ask that vacation photos be censored. But her message to Cubans is clear enough: If they aren’t expressing a certain political message even in a summer photo contest, she wants the United States to have nothing to do with them.

The contest represents American openness to freedom of expression. Rep. Ros-Lehtinen is calling for conformity of thought, as if Cubans haven’t had enough of that for the past 50 years.
I- Radio or Not has a hilarious idea for a new website.

J- Miami-Dade Dems takes a quick look at a couple South Florida congressional seats that Democrats hope to take back next year.
