Your Evening Sift

I have a rather lean evening Sift for you tonight. Just not a lot going on this afternoon in the South Florida blogosphere. Let's take a look.

A- We'll get started tonight with a call from a South Miami cyclist for cyclists there to work with the city despite some recent rough roads between the two groups...at Beached Miami.
The City of South Miami is not the enemy. Bike SoMi and the city manager may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but both sides have also learned a great deal in the past two weeks. Better bicycling must involve the city, but the city need not officially endorse every independently organized bike-related event. Citizens and community groups (like Emerge Miami) are free to assemble and ride bikes as they please (in accordance with the laws, of course). Cities can contribute as well, through smart policies and incentives.

Cyclists, let’s be friends with the City of South Miami, not a liability.
B- South Florida Food and Wine highlights a few wine events that you might be interested in next week.

C- The Reid Blog says that John Huntsman may be too civil and mature for today's Republican Party.
The problem for Huntsman is that Republican base voters have seen this movie before. Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush (and a thousand points of light)… George W. Bush’s “compassionate conservatism,” papered over by a Christian zealotry that was supposed to distract from his Methodist upbringing, and John McCain, who ultimately dropped his trademark maverickiness and civility for a red meat campaign that had the media scratching their heads. But even McCain pulled back at key moments, dropping back into the civil pose that so infuriated his base, and reigning in Sarah Palin in a way GOPers don’t plan to do this cycle. I don’t see how a candidate who comes out of the chute promising to be respectful to Barack Obama can last very long, or get much airtime on the GOP bullpen known as Fox News.
D- The road construction on U.S. 1 between Florida City and Key Largo is almost completed, according to Spokes 'n' Folks.

E- Water levels are varying widely in the swamp these days, says Go Hydrology!

F- Michelle Bernstein is apparently taking part in a cross country food truck tour that kicks off in Miami next week. The Chowfather has all the details if you're interested.
