SFDB Late Night Politics

Jon Stewart comments on the hatchet job Fox News did on the interview that he had with Chris Wallace this weekend and highlights Wallace's admission that Fox really isn't fair and balanced after all.

Locally, Babalu did their own critique [via Twitter] of Stewart's appearance and, as usual, got it wrong when they said that "Stewart claims the mainstream media is not liberally biased."

From the transcript [with my emphasis]...
WALLACE: I am sitting here talking to Jon Stewart and I'm trying to get it, trying to understand you, and trying to see whether or not you recognize that what I believe is true, that there is as much bias the other side as you subscribe to Fox, and why you seem to go easy on that.

STEWART: I think that there is a -- probably a liberal bias that exists within the media that is because of the medium in which it exists. I think that the majority of people working in it probably hold liberal viewpoints, but I don't think that they are as relentlessly activist as the conservative movement that has risen up over the last 40 years.
I think Stewart's point, expanded upon elsewhere in the interview, that Fox places their ideology ahead of their reporting is important and one that makes Fox clearly different from the "liberal" mainstream media.

You can watch the entire unedited interview here at SFDB.

Two issues ago, Rolling Stone (which admittedly has a liberal slant. haha!) ran a great story about Roger Ailes and the way he has built Fox News into a right wing propaganda machine that is exactly as Jon Stewart says it is.

In example, the story also presents a flow chart that illustrates how the network creates conservative-view "talking points" that reappear throughout each day's programming.
