Your Morning Sift

Good morning.

It's a slow morning in the South Florida blogosphere. Which, of course, means a brief Hump Day morning Sift. Enjoy.

A- Republicans are taking steps to make sure that the new crop of conservatives who are bound to head to Washington this November are sufficiently "pure," according to Bark Bark Woof Woof.

B- Obalesque feels there's reason to compare the Afghanistan of today to America.
Here’s a distinction, though, between what Iran does for Karzai and what the US Chamber of Commerce does for Republicans candidates: Karzai identifies his donors. Proudly, too.

After all, “patriotism has its price,” and certainly he’s a patriot.
C- There's a big Ironman even coming to Miami this weekend, according to the Miami Bike Scene.

D- Beached Miami presents a guest post that argues for the passage of Amendment 4.

C: It's actually a half-ironman. I wish people would get that right. Having done the full Ironman, I can a test that the half and the full are worlds apart.

Compare the two:
1.2 mile swim 2.4
56 mile bike 112
13.1 mile run 26.2

Yes in a full ironman, you run a full marathon or the distance from the FIU University Campus up the turnpike and 75 to the Weston Town Center, after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112 miles.

Finishing times? My halfs take me 7hours. The full took me 14 hours 52 minutes and 8 seconds. That 112 mile bike ride was 7hrs and 17 minutes. Almost a full day at work sitting on a bike seat and pedaling. That's a world of difference from the half.
