Sometimes when I read the anger that Cuban-American hardliners have toward Cuban musicians and Cuban athletes and sometimes even Cuban bloggers, I can't help but believe that Raul and Fidel's face is seen on every Cuban on the island and not just on two old, half-dead ideologically-irrelevant throwbacks from the 60's.

Obviously you do not understand the pain of a people who had their country stolen from them by a communist regime. Chances are you also do not understand that there are some ideological soulmates of that buch working hard to steal YOUR COUNTRY. I'll try to put it in perspective (thought the Babalu blog makes it plenty clear): Picture an "official" musical act from Nazi Germany playing Miami Beach in the mid-fifties. How do you think those folks would react? In the future please either a) do some background before you post, or b) refrain from posting about something you obviously know nothing about.
I athm e author of the above comment. I left it anonymous because I have no Google acct. Myname's Art. aar33178@comcast.net
You don't have to have a Google account to post under your name.
Just use Name/URl and leave the URL blank if you have no website.
Aar33178...no one is denying your anger, amigo, just at who it is directed. Spend your every waking minute being angry at Castro, for all I care. In fact, let it consume your very soul. But it's rather ridiculous to direct that anger at a guy banging bongos in a band or the catcher on a baseball team.
Yes, and I heard that communists are taking over America. Thanks for reminding me.

Hey, Rickboy, maybe we'll come up there and show you how angry we are. How would you like that? It's not like we don't know where you live.
Telling people who they can or can't see at a concert?
Telling people they should shutup, and threatening them with violence if they don't agree with your point of view?
Sounds like life in a communist counrtry to me? Fidel would be proud of you guys!!(your welcome, Rick!)

Wow, anon, @ 10:23, if I didn't know better I would think you're threatening me. But you would be stupid enough to do that, would you?
Knock, Knock.
Whose there?
i don't know but be careful opening your door, rickyboy///
anon 10:23 and 7:25 demonstrate why we call them "The Cuban Mafia."
Nothin' but thugs.
I don't advocate forbidding people to see anything, nor do I spend every minute of my life consumed by hatred of Castro; and for you to suggest that I do shows your shallowness, as you don't know me.But the FACTS are:
#1 NOTHING that comes out of Cuba is nonpolitical, as only regime-approved acts willing to propagandize get to play abroad.
#2 There is no cultural exchange, as many if not all cuban acts from the exile are forbidden in Cuba.
#3 If most of the Van Van concert attendees are cubans, then they are in violation of the Cuban Adjustment Act if not in fact, in spirit.
I am not saying that once the Van Vans are here (they shouldn't be) people should not be alowed to see them. I say they have no shame in doing so.
PS Tell your friends to stop pretending to be cuban americans posting threats. No one is buying those Tawana Brawley-type tactics anymore.
aar33178: I don't know who you are or how you feel about Castro. Like I said, I could care less how little or how much anger you have. You may think protesting against musicians and athletes is a noble endeavor and well worth your time. Fine. I think it's ridiculous. I'm entitled to my opinion.
As far as the threats...I hope you're right. It's funny how I only receive them when I criticize the hardliners.
.
It's funny how people like aar33178 say in one breath that they don't "advocate forbidding people to see anything" and in the next they threaten Cubans with "violating the spirit" of the CAA. It's double funny because they don't see the contradiction. But there you go.
BTW aar33178, cultural products have been exempted from the embargo since 1992 and cultural exchange means more than exile acts. May want to follow your own advice at the end of your first comment.
As far as the threats, we know where those come from. The usual little dogs barking.
Rick,
The anonymous people sure have their panties in a knot. You must have touched a nerve. Congrats! Keep up the good work of keeping us informed and educated.
