Your Evening Sift

It was an interesting day in the SoFla blogosphere. We learned that a "blogup" is being planned in the near future and we also had a blogger explain why their blog was so boring. Enjoy it all in your Tuesday evening Sift...

A- Sex and the Beach reminisces about a South Florida blogger meeting that was held in 2006 and has some thoughts on the upcoming one that she is helping to plan [and that we mentioned this morning].
But in recent history, circa 2006, several established bloggers who are still active today got together for conversation, drinks and food at Tobacco Road. The meetup was inspired by the fact that Stormhoek Winery had put together blogger shindig in South Beach for a Gaping Void campaign. A few people were turned off by the commercial nature of the event and decided that "we" could meet up all on our own. I don't remember who "we" was; it was a loosely defined collective. It just sort of happened.
B- I love rigatoni so I have to mention All Purpose Dark's brief of an all-you-can-eat special at Talula.

C- Blast Off! finds it hard to believe that Charlie Crist says he didn't know the President was in the state yesterday.
Gov. Crist certainly knew the president was visiting the state -- in fact, he contradicted himself when he answered the third question above. And people wonder why Crist is losing ground to Marco Rubio.

The governor is trying desperately to extricate himself from the mess he created for himself with the wingnuts who control the GOP in Florida when he accepted federal stimulus money and appeared with the president in February. But when he pulls stunts like this, it just makes him look petty and equivocal.

Heckuva job, Charlie. You just keep digging, now, y'hear?
D- Coconut Grove Grapevine had a nice experience with the Miami Parking Authority so he writes about it.
She took my dollar bill and tried it. It did not work. We tried coins. It did not work. Finally, we put a credit card in, and it worked. I got the $1.00 worth of parking and she took that and the parking ticket and she said she would void out the $18.00 ticket. It was a pleasant surprise and not expected at all.
E- Shorter Eye on Miami...
It takes a lot of work to be boring.
F- Who knew Metro Mover runs through buildings? I sure didn't until I saw this photo from Under The Sun.

G- When you check out Mango&Lime's post on the latest underground dining experience in Miami, I bet you'll say to yourself, "Self, I've seen this before." And you would be correct because Food for Thought did a similar post that I highlighted in last night's Evening Sift.
The pig was carved in front of us and chef Chad Galiano of Neomi’s Grill, who made a surprise appearance with chef Kurtis Jantz, also of Neomi’s, topped it with trotter cakes made from the pig’s head and trotters. Ah, I think I’m becoming a huge fan of pork.
H- Miami Condo Investments shows us the 1800 Club penthouse that recently sold for $700K. Lots of comments, too.

I- The South Florida Beer Blog says The Democratic Republic of Beer is open in downtown Miami.
The menu states they have over 400 beers, making it the largest beer menu in South Florida. The food options looked pretty good too. I went and checked it out the other night and a full review will be coming soon. I will say this small bar will be become the new beer destination for anyone interested in craft beer without having to go to South Beach.
J- Upcoming punk music events are up at South Florida Punk.

K- Bark Bark Woof Woof says Representative Grayson's 15 minutes are almost up.
I had a feeling that he was a little too much of a good thing and that his sudden fame would go to his head and exacerbate his tendency to shoot off his mouth. Well, I was right.
