Your Morning Sift

Good morning.

It was kind of a quiet night in the South Florida blogosphere so I only have a few things for you in your Hump Day morning Sift.

A- Random Pixels says that freelance photographers who work for the Miami Herald are getting the shaft under a newly proposed contract.
Random Pixels has seen a copy of the contract that states: "Contractor further grants to the Company all of the rights set forth in the immediately preceding sentence with respect to any and all editorial material previously submitted by Contractor to the Company and published by the Company (the “previous
editorial material”).

In other words the Herald wants ownership of all images produced by freelancers and retroactive ownership of any image ever shot by a freelancer for the Herald.

Under the terms of the new contract, freelancers would not receive any further compensation for those images.
B- Foodtastic! breaks down what was part of their recent nighttime beach picnic.

C- Meatless Miami says the very healthy Lifefood Gourmet on Coral Way is highly recommended.

D- Vivir el Presente vividly describes the typical South Florida summer afternoon for us.
The sky here doesn't darken, it turns a color you haven't seen since you found that eggplant rotting in the produce section. If we were in Kansas, it would send you running for the trapdoor by the silo. Lightning doesn't crinkle somewhere off in the distance, it forks a mile wide right over your house. The following thunder doesn't grumble across the stratosphere, it's the grenade G-d just threw into your bathroom. And the ensuing rain may or may not carry your car down the street. All in a day's work, when you live 3.5 feet above sea level.
E- The ghost of former president Richard Nixon, a Republican, has surfaced again and, as you might expect, it's not for a good reason, according to Bark Bark Woof Woof.

A - That is a load of crap. Let's hope the freelancers complain and start taking their images elsewhere (if there is anywhere else to take them) and not sign this contract. That is overly harsh.
