Mourning Fail

According to:

There are two Michael Jackson stars on the Walk of Fame. How do we know the Star in this photo is if the radio personality?

Re: Quotable... MJ never drank beer. He drank "Jesus juice".

A great entertainer, yes. But why is this a tragedy, exactly? The arc of his life was complete. Period.

/doesn't get idol worship/

Rick, thanks for the link. Does anyone else find it disturbing that these fans are putting flowers and candles and praying/meditating for a celebrity? I hope I am not being insensitive but MJ wasn't any part of their family, not a friend, never directly interacted with them, etc. Is this fanaticism to an extreme? Is it healthy?

I grew up listening to MJ and Thriller was one of my first, if not first LP. I remember begging my mom to let me stay up late so I could watch the premier of the Thriller video on Friday Night Videos. So yes, I'm a fan. But I don't see me ever mourning someone who is not family or close personal friend like these folks are.

Agree with Eddie. Kind of bizarre celebrity worship going on here. While his music was a foundation for my generation; the second half of his life was a complete and unmitigated train wreck.

The multiple child molestation charges, the grotesque physical transformation through plastic surgery, his bizarre family life, financial ruin, and beyond eccentric personal habits - all turned Michael Jackson into a charicature of the former pop icon.

While the musical legacy, his breakthrough into MTV as a African American performer and his contribution to pop culture all deserve to be celebrated, it is hard to push aside all the other baggage associated with Michael.
