Your Evening Sift

So if you have any of your assets tied up in BankUnited you might be interested in what happened today. I don't think things are getting much better, folks. On a positive note, here's your Night Before Friday evening Sift.

A- UVu's Jessy posts a video of her driving across Alligator Alley to Naples. She's by herself and she's filming while she cruises in the...yeah, you got it...left lane. Arrggghh.

B- The doors were open for the first time at Pizzavolante and Food For Thought was there to grab a menu. Also, make sure you check out the video.
It's a short and sweet listing of pizzas, and for the most part pretty traditional. Standard pies are done with fresh mozzarella from local producer Vito Volpe, whose stuff is also featured in the mozzarella bar, or you can splurge and go for the fancier stuff on a $13 pie. There are also a couple calzones if you prefer your pizza stuffed. The wood-fired oven is pretty impressive, as is the pile of firewood waiting to fuel it. Locavores will appreciate the "Volante 100," with all toppings or fillings grown or produced within 100 miles of the store.
C- Wednesday night's Ride of Silence is well-documented in another great video from Miami Bike Scene.
An estimated 250 cyclists showed up to the "Ride Of Silence" Wednesday evening in Key Biscayne. This was my first time attending the annual ride which aims to raise awareness to motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also an opportunity to show respect to cyclists who have been killed or injured. A prayer was said before the ride started & the organizers explained the reason for the ride and how it was being held worldwide at 7pm.
D- Flablog has a color-coded map of the U.S. showing where you can find the dumbest drivers. You'll never guess how Florida fared.

E- SouthFlorida.com fails to impress Some Cranky Guy.
On my exercise bike this morning trying to lose some pounds I became bored and made the really bad mistake of turning on the television. I usually watch the local Spanish television station to try to learn Spanish from the fully blossomed female Cuban Newscasters dressed in slutty cocktail dresses. But they were cutting away too much to actual news so I flicked about more, and came across an abomination of morning shows. SouthFlorida.com Live. Yes, despite its name being a website address, it supposedly is a television show. I mean morning show. I mean upchucked digital feline fur balls. I don’t know what the hell it is actually.
F- Coconut Grove Grapevine says the Grove needs a "signature food" and he gets lots of suggestions in the comments.

G- Spokes 'n' Folks reports that South Miami is involving bicyclists in finding ways to better serve pedestrians and bikers.
City Manager Ajibola Balogun met today with bicyclists and some of his management team to size up how better to serve walkers and bicyclists in South Miami.

Much on the cyclists' minds was the pending improvement of Sunset Drive (SW 72nd Street) west of SW 62nd Avenue, where sidewalks already are being widened and planters and new curb ramps built. Lisa Fox pressed for bike lanes or at least wide curb lanes to be included, but the city resisted on grounds that the plans already had been submitted for state review.
H- South Florida Theatre Scene posts their review for the week.

I- Bark Bark Woof Woof has a great response to Dick Cheney's latest round of fear-mongering.

Thanks for plugging Jessy's video. We are actually glad she was on the right side of the road in the first place.
