The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has apparently started a feature called the "Blog of the Day" in which they highlight a local South Florida blog on the front page of their online edition. Naturally, I think this is an excellent idea. What a better way of getting mainstream media readers introduced to blogging.Anyway, the Sun-Sentinel introduces the Blog of the Day by noting yours truly...

The South Florida Daily BlogAll of it is heavily linked and by the looks of my StatCounter this morning, very effective in directing traffic over to the highlighted blog.
This blog is billed as a daily review and discussion of the South Florida blogs. SFDB generally goes through and reviews the blogs twice a day and highlights those posts that stand out. He goes through the main stream medias too. He has a strong blog roll, a flickr account, favorite comment, a quote, a reading list and more. That is why SFDB is the very first editor's pick for "Blogs to read in South Florida". Check it out.
You can also submit your blog's name and URL to the Sun-Sentinel in an effort to create South Florida's "Ultimate Blogroll."

I went over there and warned them if they wanted to link my blog, I needed a piece of the bailout money they're angling for to emerge from bankruptcy.
The emailed back that they wouldn't do business with anybody named "Hole." Evidently the "Squat" part was alright, tho.

I'm going to be the cynic here and wonder exactly how long they can keep this up.
A blog a day seems great but long will it be before they start repeating blogs because they can't find anything worthy (or at least something that is regularly updated) to mention.
The Miami New Times Riptide blog used to do "Blog of the Week" but they lost interest in that.
So how long will it be before the Sun Sentinel loses interest in the Blog of the Day?
But I didn't allow cynicism to prevent me from submitting my blog.
I also recommended Generation Miami and Burger Beast, two new blogs I really like.
Being that there's over 300 days in a year, I doubt that the Sun-Sentinel plans to switch blogs daily. They don't necessarily have to run the feature every day nor do they have to switch the blogs every day.

Then why call it Blog of the Day?
I think to really make that feature work they should highlight the Blog Post of the Day, kind of like what you do.
But then again, you know they won't acknowledge those posts that actually scoop them on a story.
Simple. The same reason I call it the "SFDB Question of the Day" but I don't run it every day.

Since EVERYBODY scoops the Sun-Sentinel lately, that would make for light reading.
Heck, I spend so much time kicking the Sentinel in the shins that I probably will never make the cut.
