So here are some movies that I have recently seen in the order that I would rank them...My girlfriend says she agrees except that she would switch Benjamin Button and Milk.

I liked Slumdog Millionaire, but found it very depressing. It just kind of left me with an "okay, now what?" feeling at the end. Haven't seen the other three. Just saw Gran Torino last night and REALLY liked it. I was actually surprised at how much I liked it, considering I am not an Eastwood fan in the least. If you can get past the initial shock of the highly racist terminology (and try to understand the reasons behind the main character's mentality), it is really worth it to watch all the way through. (imho)
haven't seen any of the other ones but Slumdog is probably the best movie I've seen in the past year. For other oscar-buzzy films... I saw The Wrestler but failed to see what the hype was about.
saw Benjamin Button yesterday afternoon--- hardly tolerable- extremely overwrought-- the messages/lessons in life were lovely but for God's sake, 3 hours to get it out-- just too much-- Tilda Swinton was wonderful as were the elderly folks in the "home" as well as Benjamin's adopted mother, but I would hhave rather seen ten or twnety good indie flicks made from this button budget-- cannot figure out what everyone is raving about-- the stying was excellent--- very good period furniture, textiles, appliances, cars etc-- buit the movie sucked--
Slumdog was excellent-- great story, great set up, actors were superb, especially the game show host/villian, fabulous movie all around

Slumdog is definitely getting the hype. As I stood on line for Revolutionary Road, it was the talk of many standing with me.
As for Rev Road, beautifully shot but several scenes triggered laughter and groans from the viewers, scenes where laughter and groans were not the intended response.
And if you've ever been in a bad marriage, well, this film brings it all rushing back.
I saw Benjamin Button this weekend, and do believe it's a bit over-rated. A good film? Certainly, and one worth my money. But worth thirteen Academy Award nominations? I don't think so. I left the theater feeling no different than when I came in, and it felt too "Forrest Gump"-ish.
My top five favorite films this year are: 1. Milk, 2. Gran Torino, 3. The Dark Knight, 4. Benjamin Button, 5. Frost/Nixon
May I add, too, that Iron Man was a pretty good movie.
However, I must admit that I haven't yet seen Revolutionary Road, Doubt, The Reader, or Slumdog Millionaire, all of which are movies I've heard great things about.
When I said favorite films this year, I obviously meant last year.** Still thinking in terms of 2008!
Recently saw "In Bruge" (pronounced 'broozh') with Colin Farrell and thought it was great.
Wonderful and creative combination of humor, drama and action. Unique plot.
Highly recommended.

No Seven Pounds?? Yes, it was dark, but I thought it was thought provoking.
