Your Morning Sift

Good morning.

Kind of a strange mix of posts that appeared last night in the South Florida blogosphere. Here's your eclectic morning Sift...

A- Sundries apparently hasn't got the memo yet that Palin lost the election for the Republican Party.

My beloved Governor Sarah Palin makes a triumphant comeback to Sundries, after stumping this Monday for Senator Saxby Chambliss (worst name ever). He is trying to stay alive in the runoff against challenger, Democrat Jim Martin, and she went over to the Peaches State on his behalf.

[...]

Still gorgeous. Still inspiring (especially to women, as you can plainly see above). Still Sarah.

"Palin/Saxby 2012"? Right now, let's concentrate on 2008. There's a lifetime of rallies until then.

Yes, Democrats can only hope in their wildest dreams that Palin appears on the ticket again in 2012 so that McCain/Palin supporters can once again deliver another 173 electoral votes. Say what you will about Democrats, but at least they learn from their mistakes.

B- Obalesque comments on war commentators and the things that might influence their perspectives.
What I do know, though, is that [Barry] McCaffrey and his ribboned ilk are routinely cited as authorities in these life-and-death matters, and their zillion dollar consulting contracts, which render them “lobbyists” by any definition, are rarely scrutinized to determine if their counsel is tantamount to a sales pitch. We ‘Mer’cans don’t like to disparage our generals, nor call their integrity into question. Maybe he was simultaneously flogging his clients products while defending the troops — is it okay then?

But to me, the interesting wrinkle here is the way the news industry becomes a player in the same game, not just reporting their testimony, but featuring them as commentators and soliciting their views. All the while avoiding any mention of his clients’ identify.
C- Cuban Home Cooking shows us how to make Cuban egg nog.

D- Smashed Frog looks at the recent shooting of a registered sex offender in Palm Beach County and the way it was treated by the Herald.

E- Bark Bark Woof Woof echoes sentiments that we're reading elsewhere these days.
But I'm having a hard time remembering the last time an incoming administration of an opposing party kept in place the Secretary of Defense from the previous administration. That says to me that while Mr. Obama may have enough of an ego to run for president, he also knows that he needs smart and confident people to run the country, not political hacks who owe their political fortunes to the election of someone else and who have demonstrated that they're fully capable of coming up with an original idea on their own. And most importantly, they know who's in charge.
F- Random Pixels notes that at least one Miamian is getting creative with the mortgage crisis.
Let me see if I have this straight...he's moving people who can't afford housing into homes that don't belong to him, but that once had owners who couldn't afford them either. Brilliant business model!

Rameau is the same guy who set up and ran the squatters village on city-owned land in the 'hood....until it burned down last year.

Saxby Chambliss is teh sorriest excuse for a senator the GOP has, after Jesse Helms kicked the bucket -and he is also a shinning example of conservative hypocrisy.

He got five deferments to not go to VietNam ("football injury" the preferred excuse of Republican avoiders), yet had the unimitigated gall to wage one of the dirtiest campaigns on record against Max Cleland, accusing him of being unpatriotic and being on the side of Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. Cleland is a triple amputee VietNam vet. Watch the Chambliss TV ads and tell me how anybody in good conscience can support a guy like this. Not one to rest on his laurels, he campaigned this year on racial fears, saying to a white audience "those other people are coming out to vote".

A racist and a mudracker of the worst kind. If he is your perfect candidate, then you ought to examine your soul.

Oh, I wondered where all the anti-Palin comments were coming from. From Southfloridadailyblog, that haven for sexists and misogynists. The place which thinks it can tell a woman blogger about the topic she should be posting on, and how the post should read, and what is an acceptable opinion to have. Disgusting. Head Eastwards -- they love guys like you.

I have my eyes on you, Rick. Such pretty eyes they are too.

And hey Alex! I saw you in Beverly Hills Chihuahua the other day. You were great.

Cheers,
Victoria

Vicky,

My distaste for the ignorance of Palin, something that you apparently find quite endearing, is no more misogynistic than your fawning over her is, well, ummm, any more than just fawning, if you know what I mean.

How dare you dictate to me who I can criticize, mock and make fun of. You should be ashamed of yourself, sweetie. The nerve!

Now run along and clean the house or do your nails or bake some cookies.

You went to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Your taste in movies is just as crappy as your taste in politics.
