Your Morning Sift

Good morning.

Hope your weekend is beginning well. Lots of bloggers using their cameras it seems. I have some of the links here in your morning Sift...

A- Matt's Photo Blog gets some shots of an FHP DUI checkpoint in progress last night in Miami-Dade County. The irony of the checkpoint being set up outside a Ticket Clinic made me smile.

B- The South Beach Bum borrows some B-52's Temptations lyrics to describe some photos he took around South Beach this morning.

C- A Pretty Good Guy gets his letter to the editor published in the Sun-Sentinel.

D- Discourse posts the video of an excellent TV ad that Florida Democrat Alan Grayson is running. I love the comment that the post gets.

E- Interesting post by Transit Miami where they describe a survey of bicyclists using the Venetian Causeway one Tuesday morning.
What I discovered is instructive. Overall, I counted 90 bicyclists. Interestingly, I saw no children, kids, or teens. About 60% of the riders were headed east, while another 40% were heading west. Those readily identifiable as recreational bicyclists were doing loops, while the rest, with their backpacks, saddle bags, and lack of spandex, were probably on their way to or from work.

Men outnumbered women by 40%, which says something about users, safety and preference.

As it relates to bicycle behavior, 100% of users were using the on-street bicycle lanes, opting to stay away from the sidewalks. What is more, 100% of bicyclists were riding with traffic.

F- 305: Misadventures in the MIA captures a sort of surreal scene on the MacArthur Causeway yesterday evening at 7 PM with no traffic on the roadway. Of course it was heading west, but still...

The B-52's sang "Love Shack." "Psychedelic Shack" is by the Temptations circa 1969. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_Shack_(song). One of the first LPs I ever bought.

If it weren't for my readers, I would look so much smarter.

Thanks.
