Your Evening Sift

A blogging song and one of SoFla's bloggers is planning on writing a book...here's your evening Sift...

A- Coconut Grove Grapevine took a walk around Village West, a place I didn't even know existed.

B- Nice discussion by Eye on Miami on the significance and meaning of the recent purchase of Big Sugar's land in the Everglades by the State of Florida
In the case of the Everglades, litigation and the general economy forced the changed climate in which a massive deal to buyout US Sugar emerged. But the changed climate related to global warming is far more difficult and allows politicians room to hide. Governor Crist, in supporting offshore oil drilling, has shown himself to be vulnerable to those temptations.

C- Blue Moon Over Miami offers up a South Florida blogger song.
I got a lot of hits the day of my first article
and I turned to Gus and Michelle with a smile
because I know it's through MiamiBeach411
That you come visit my life for a while

D- Dente Press feels the exact same way about ficus hedges as I do.
It can be your greatest friend or your worst enemy, depending on the circumstances. It's way better than a wooden fence, if properly maintained. Its a living wall, and that's the problem, it never stops growing. During the winter months, you can get away not trimming it for maybe a couple of months (Isn't that ALL of winter?). But during the summer rainy season, expect to have to trim it every couple of weeks.

E- Mayor Manny wins Thursday's Shortest Blog of the Day...if we had one.
50,000 visitors the first month = AMAZING!

F- Miami & Beyond discusses today's Supreme Court ruling that will provide wingnuts with many a wet dream tonight.
I'd like some conservative constitutional scholar to tell me how you go from a well organized militia to a right to own firearms for home defense (but little else, as Scalia wrote). One is for the defense of the state and as a guarantee of our liberties should the government turn tyrannical or fails to protect us (an argument I have never bought, but that it has been at the heart of the discussion). The other is purely utilitarian.

G- Toys have overrun Tropic of Mom's house.
