Top 50 Blogger Blogs

I know some of you bloggers out there have this thing against Blogger blogs. Something about having "blogspot" as part of your URL makes you all nervous and causes you to do stuff like move to Wordpress or find another host. I have used both Wordpress and Blogger and Blogger is, by far, the easiest and most enjoyable to work with, in my opinion.

If you're one those folks with an aversion to Blogger, you need to take a look at this list of the Top 50 Blogger-powered blogs and see who is using the Blogger platform. There are some heavy hitters out there who have somehow overcome the stigma associated with a Blogger blog and are doing quite well, thank you.

I have an aversion to having an extra word in my blog address, whether it be blogspot, blogger or wordpress.

The best thing to do is buy your own domain.

The main problem lies in the extensibility of the platform and the latitude you have in your design.

Obviously a skilled writer can overcome both these issues, but I never understood why someone would put so much work in writing a blog and simply have it look like everyone else's. A site's design should compliment the content, and blogger's design, while versatile, really doesn't help express anything.

Then there's the whole thing of your content being stuck in a closed system. It's the same reason I don't use Microsoft Word whenever I can avoid it: I don't like the ideas of my words being help prisoner by a proprietary system.

I have Wordpress, LiveJournal and Blogger for different blogs just because I am a geek that way.

I will say that a ripple of fear ran through the romance writing blog-o-sphere because blogger began shutting down the Erotic Romance blogs and seemed to be targeting even R-rated content blogs. I keep mine as pg as possible simply because, but I have a real problem with the morality police censoring blogs unless they are posting illegal child porn or something.

With Blogger, you constantly need to look over your shoulder and back up your content or risk the bar going lower on each pass, swiping your content offline with no notice.

When faced with two paths,
I've always taken the more difficult one. (Just ask my first wife.)

Blogger looks smooth and professional and is waaaaayyyyy to easy.

Wordpress and your own domain, damn, it takes time and energy just to keep the sucker up.

It's a curse.

But then again, it could be my age too.........lol

I tried Word Press at another blog but found Blogger easier to work with and more flexible. I have my own domain though.
