The link to the story about teenagers getting breast enhancement surgery is very scary. Over the last fifteen years I've work at a college I've seen the explosion of silicone on campus. Now, when high school girls visit to check out the college, it is extremely rare to see anyone who doesn't have large breasts, usually hanging out for the world to see. And I'm talking about their mothers. The students too.

I wonder what the long term effects will be both on the individual kids getting their surgeries, and society.

What happen to the theory that we should accept ourselves as we are, and build a solid self esteem based on who we are?

Weird and disturbing story.

I agree, SCG, that's why I linked to it.

Although I have no stats to back it up, I would be willing to bet that this practice is more prevalent in South Florida and Soutern California. $100 says that if you go to Omaha, Nebraska, this isn't happening with near the frequency.

I think it speaks volumes about our values here in South Florida.
