Your Evening Sift

It was a fairly busy Saturday out there in the SoFla blogosphere. 87 degrees in Miami today, people. Is it June? Or February?

A- All Purpose Dark has some killer pictures from "trade day" at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

B- Miami-Forum has the video for a Critical Mass bike race through the streets of Miami at night. The clip, which was made from the helmet of one of the riders and is of pretty poor quality, includes footage of the the cameraman running into a pedestrian. Is this what Critical Mass is all about?

C- Infomaniac is adding a list of Cuba-related blogs to its blogroll.

D- Consumable Joy informs us that Mint Leaf, specializing in Indian cuisine, will be opening in Coral Gables soon.

E- Zach "Always A Dolphin" Thomas is heading to the Dallas Cowboys, according to PhinPhantic.

F- Some Cranky Guy is, well, cranky over the money being spent for the new Miami Marlins stadium.

Attendance at the majority of the Marlin’s games barely reach four digits, and then only if you count the security and snack bar crew, as well as anyone in cars that happen to drive down University Drive while the game is going on. Assuming you call men standing around scratching their nuts and spitting a game.

Over $500 million dollars. Taxpayer money. We have one of the highest crime rates, one of the highest homeless rate, our schools are practically falling down, and this stinking greedy cash pocketing butthead politicians of the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County decide to waste money on supporting a for profit business!

I think Cranky Guy's not happy.

If I had been that pedestrian, I would have found it hard not to beat that guy's ass.

There are two Critical Mass groups. One was started by some friends of mine and they ride Saturday mornings and they do it to promote bike ridership.

This is their site.

From what I understand, the Friday night group is a little younger and a little more anarchistic.

The two Critical Mass groups are very very different in their approach towards promoting cycling. But I guess they do have the same long term goals. Help make Miami a more bike friendly city.

Cranky Guy is right, this is an absurd waste of taxpayer dollars and we should all feel like victims. So, now if you add up the cost of the current waste of money known as the PAC plus the future waste of money known as Marlins Stadium (or whatever corporate loser is dumb enough to sponsor the stadium), we're looking at over ONE BILLION DOLLARS wasted on 2 fuckin entertainment centers that hardly anyone does/will attend. Someone please try to explain to me how this makes sense? Oh, and while we're at it, can someone figure out a way so that I dont have to pay for this bullshit?

BM, unless you're renting hotel rooms in town, or you own property in blighted areas of downtown, then buy yourself some peanuts and crackerjacks, and don't worry your pretty little head about it.
