You may notice that things look a little different here at SFDB. Indeed they are. Thanks to Miami Beach 411's Make A New Logo For SFDB Contest, we have a new, smaller header designed by Mirna. For their efforts, Mirna and all the entrants received a prize from the generous MB411. SFDB wants to extend its appreciation to MB411 and all the participants for their assistance in helping us clean things up over here.
And, now, on to the posts you shouldn't have missed today.
A- Eye on Miami is keeping a close track of Jim DeFede's weight loss.
B- All Purpose Dark suggests a few events that you can still attend at the almost-sold-out South Beach Wine & Food Festival this weekend.
C- Dolphin Mall is going to get a Cinebistro, according to MenuPages: South Florida.
D- Ipanemic rambles on which is, in my opinion, the best kind of Ipanemic post.
E- You know all those renderings of the new Miami Marlins stadium that have been circulating lately? Fugghetaboutit, says Owenized.
F- Key Largo OJ, from FTL Today.
G- Fidel Castro has resigned and all is not the same, at least not for Calm Bobby...
I feel Cuban because my parents are Cuban. I feel Cuban because my grandfather made a decision and busted his ass to get over here, leaving behind everything. I feel Cuban because I look forward to Noche Buena and the stories from the old guard. I feel Cuban because I respect the audacity of a community of people that still holds on to their roots so dearly.
For the first time in my life, I can really say that I want to visit the island. I want to see where I'm from and meet all those people that are wearing my 2nd hand clothes. I'm tired of trying to figure out who I really am. There's that void there, the feeling that something is missing because your people have been displaced so long. I see the old Cubans, even the Mambisa guys, and that's all they really want. They want that feeling of displacement to disappear. Just for one second, they want to sit on the same plot of grass they sat as kids. And shit, I want to sit there too.
I miss that island I've never been to. I miss those people I've never met. I miss Cuba.
Go read the whole thing. You'll get more out this one post than you will out of

I'm honored that I could help. I also want to say, Alex Cabrera(Habla Mierda)put a lot of thought into a creative design.
Happy we could help, Rick! And thanks to everyone who submitted a logo.
People sometimes complain about MiamiBeach411's website design. Getting their feedback can feel humbling, but is priceless.
Would anyone like to comment about the other South Florida Blogs that need a redesign?
Personally, I'd like to see Transit Miami get a rehaul, and those little fonts on Ipanemic could sure use some resizing, don't you think?
Gus,
I agree about my site. I was just thinking about that last night. I really need to overhaul the whole thing but it's just been put on the backburner for now. But the fonts ARE too small, I agree.
Me likes... :)
I'd love to have a go on your site, Gus.
And I think you made the right choice with this header. Mine was more of a joke than anything.
You know what might be a good addition for SFDB?
Something like a weekly feature where people who want their blog critiqued, get their blog critiqued by all of us, whether it's design or whatever.
Jeez, Carlos, do you think that people actually want to do that? There may be a couple, but a weekly feature?
.
Well, maybe not a weekly feature.
I tend to spurt out ideas sometimes as if I were in a brainstorming session - where they can either get shot down right then or developed into something stronger - but random ideas like this might not look too good once its permanently etched on a website 12 hours later.
A weekly feature is probably too much, but I like Carlos' idea.
Alex, the feedback you gave Miami Herald about their layout was excellent. You know your stuff.
At the time, I thought about asking you to review my site, but figured I could afford you. I also had nightmares of that scene in "A Few Good Men" when Jack Nicholson was screaming at Tom Cruise "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" You were playing the Jack Nicholson character.
